Self confidence is probably one of the


most important psychological
prerequisites for success in sport.
Self confident athletes believe in their
ability to develop the knowledge and
skills needed to succeed.
This represents their self fulfilling
prophecy expecting something to
happen causes it to happen!

Bandura identifies 4 main factors that affect


future success and thus determines self
efficacy:
Performance accomplishments level of
success experienced
Vicarious experiences observing others
perform and achieve success
Verbal persuasion can instil confidence
through discussion or distortion of practices
Emotional arousal ensure optimum levels
