Hoxton East and Shoreditch Ward Forum, November 26th 2014

Crown and Manor Club, Wiltshire Row

Summary of Meeting
Employees of the Crown and Manor Club gave a tour of the fantastic
facilities at the Crown and Manor Club and talked about its ethos and
history.
Edmund Ross from the Youth Parliament and Nancy Bending-Beckett from
Young Hackney attended. Edmund gave a very interesting overview of the
Youth Parliament; its purpose and agenda; and some of the projects it is
working on, for example the breaking down stereotypes campaign which
the Youth Parliament is doing in through the Adobe Youth Voice
programme. Edmund raised some of the issues young people have, for
example distrust of police and racial, cultural, stereotyping. Edmund said
that he felt that through the Hackney Youth Parliament young peoples
voices were being heard, and that they were able to feed into Council
policies which affect young people.
The Chair of the Hobbs Place TRA gave an update on some of the security
and crime issues at Hobbs Estate, which are being addressed by Hackney
Homes in partnership with the Safer Neighbourhood Team.
Members suggested that they may trial a joint Community Advisory Panel
(CAP, formerly Safer Neighbourhoods) and Ward forum meeting in the
future.
Residents from Rivington Street attended to raise concerns about the
pedestrianisation of Rivington Street. Members and residents will have a
separate meeting to discuss this.
