Dear Shawna Boodhoo,

My name is Roosmarijn Pastink and I will be student teaching for my professional

semester one in your classroom.
To tell you a little about myself, I grew up on a farm in Purple Springs with my
wonderful parents and three brothers. In my spare time I enjoy reading, watching history
documentaries, and various outdoor activities such as spending time at our farm,
camping, and skiing. I attended Taber Christian School for elementary and Jr. High and
went onto high school at Immanuel Christian School in Lethbridge. I began my postsecondary education at Medicine Hat College, after which I transferred to the University
of Lethbridge, where I am currently completing Bachelor of Social Science and Bachelor
of Education, Combined Degree.
Growing up I always had a desire to work with children. As such, I began
babysitting at a young age and have been working with children ever since. The primary
reason why I have always wanted to be a teacher, stems from my love of helping children
and the great feeling of accomplishment that comes with watching them succeed in their
learning. I have spent a considerable amount of time observing classrooms, teaching
grade 1-3 Sunday school, and working at Summer Camps and with children with autism.
Through these experiences I have gained a greater realization of my love for working
with children.
I ultimately chose to be a teacher because I love having the opportunity to make a
difference in someones life. I love the challenge that comes with teaching, the challenge
to make every lesson meaningful and exciting and to suit every lesson to all the specific
learners in the room. My first practicum for Education 2500 was in an Extended Grade 1
class in Medicine Hat and I absolutely loved it! I began to develop my knowledge of
teaching and received a lot of helpful advice and guidance.
Thank you for this great opportunity to complete my practicum in your classroom.
I am very excited to gain more knowledge and experience about teaching and especially
would like to see how this experience will further develop my teaching skills.
I look forward to meeting you
Sincerely,
Roosmarijn Pastink
