Why do you think we started the course with these readings?
I believe the three different readings all have one common purpose. The purpose being to
help us become better writers. The Daybook for example tells us to keep a journal on us every
day. With the journal (daybook) we can practice writing every day. Jot down ideas that may not
help us today but maybe in the future. The close reading passage tells us that reading can help us
grow into greater writers. I believe we were asked to read these passages, to give us some ideasto
help us become better writers. I know I could use all the help I can get. But I think Im not the
only one. I think many students coming out of high school struggle to write. I know in my high
school systems I was taught about grammar but not specifically writing. I also struggle coming
up with ideas to write about. Usually my teachers would tell me what to write about. If I was
given a free write assignment I would end up struggling. So I believe we were asked to read
those passages to help us with our struggle of writing.
