Reflection #5
Paper vs. Presentation
Now that Ive completed both my paper and presentation on my topic, it really made me
realize how different the approaches are. In almost any other course, you are required to either
write a paper on it, or make a presentation on the subject, not both. So this caused for a new
approach considering both were required. This altered the process greatly knowing that I would
have to write about the subject and present it as well. This was a great learning experience because
it taught me how to adapt my work to a specific assignment and setting, which doesnt really occur
in other courses. One aspect that the paper and presentation did share was preparation. Creating
the presentation (PowerPoint) was like writing the paper, rehearsing the verbal part of the
presentation was like revising and editing the paper. Seeing the differences and similarities of a topic
in multiple genres helped me for future times when I will be asked to choose a subject, and I think
this was extremely helpful for my writing and researching skills.
