Objective

2. OBJECTIVE:
The main goal of therapy is to bring off a steady state tissue or blood level which is
non-toxic and therapeutically effective for an extended period of time. Sustained
release drug delivery systems, with an aim of developed patient compliance,
improved therapeutic efficacy, less side effects and decreased dosage regimen with
less toxicity for medication for many acute and chronic diseases.
Matrix tablets are very useful in the field of healthcare for sustained release dosage regimen.

The major objectives of the investigation are as follows:

Preparation of calibration curve.
To achieve compatibility studies by using IR spectroscopy.
To achieve pre formulation studies like bulk density and flow properties for powders
of drug and polymers.
To formulate matrix tablets of Metoprolol succinate by wet granulation method by
using different polymer like Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose K100M (HPMC
K100M), HPMC K15M, HPMC K4M.
To evaluate prepared formulations for physical parameters like hardness, friability
and weight variation etc.

Objective

For many drugs, the optimal therapeutic respond is examined only when adequate
blood levels are complete and continue with minimum variations, (the matrix tablets
will give more consistent blood levels).
Drugs with biological half-life 2-4 hrs are viewed as suitable candidate for sustained
release dosage form. So it is suitable to deliver this drug in SR dosage form.
Generally a lower daily dose of Metoprolol succinate may be sufficient for long-term
administration.
