The main ideas coming from Stuart Hall focused around the mass media, and
their influences on their audience. The biggest difference between Halls theory and
the a true media study is that there is not only a worldview that should be
accounted for, but also an ideology or a mental framework a different classes and
groups have to make sense of society. Hall looks are where shared meaning comes
from, but where the person sharing the meaning finds the meaning originally. He
also believes that many stories are left untold because of the business monopoly
that is mass media and its ownership.
Other than that conversations we have in class, I do not have much personal
application to offer to this theory because in all honesty it was a new way of
thinking for me. I found todays class conversation to be stimulating and a force to
think in a new way.
