I discussed this lesson plan with the lab teacher before the due date ____ (Students Initials)
Y / N The student discussed this lesson plan with me before the due date _____ (Lab Teachers Initials)
I have witnessed Maynard, Ryan, and several other children take an item and turn it into a hammer. I
thought they should get to practice with the actual tool, in a controlled environment.
Watching Taegan, I have observed that she likes to be challenged. When I brought in the floor puzzle,
she was mesmerized by it and wanted to complete the whole 35 piece puzzle by herself. I wanted to
introduce shapes and feel that by having to match them, she and other students will be challenged
by the activity.
Many of the students in the class Krishna, Aditi, Ashitha, and Violet have spent a lot of time trying on
the different outfits that dramatic play has to offer. I wanted to give them clothes that ordinarily they
wouldnt see and that so far have not been a part of a theme that they have been exposed to.
The children love water. Each time there is water at the sensory table the kids all (Avyukt, Sasmit,
Ryan, Fallon, Allin, Ashitha, etc) love to play in it. I wanted to change out where they get to play
with the water. I figured this could be accomplished by putting sand in the sensory table and giving
them ice cubes (which melt into water) to paint with.
Each time I am in the classroom, at least one child wants to read a story with me. I have probably
read to every student in the class. I know they are very interested in books. I wanted to bring in my
science books so that the children could explore new books.
I felt that I had a lot of small at the table types of activities and this is a class that does not like to sit
still. Many of the boys (Maynard, Ryan, Evan) all like being able to move and be active. I thought
placing cars out in the rug area would be good but wanted to add the dimension of the foam mats.
The kids can adjust the mats to what they like and how they think it should go and are able to move
around while doing so.
1. Fill the sensory table1/4 to 1/3 of the way up with sand. The place farm animal toys into there. Cover until it is
center time.
2. Place corkboards out. 4 corkboards to a table. Place out a hammer and goggles with each corkboard. Allow child
to hammer nails, a few placed at each corkboard, into the board.
3. Place popsicle sticks out at the table. Place one or two that are already matched on the table and spread the
others out so they are not touching their mate.
4. Place a tray at each chair. Put a piece of paper on each tray. Place a bowl with the ice cubes in the middle. Allow
children to pick color of ice cube and draw any design.
5. Place tiaras, skirts, helmets, and chest plates in the dramatic play. Make sure that food items are not accessible
in the dramatic play area. Allow children to put on/use each item as they choose.
6. Move books already on bookcase to one shelf. Spread 3D books out for kids to be able to see. Make sure to
watch for children at this activity to help with 3D glasses.
7. In rug area, connect some but not all, of the foam mats. Place additional mats nearby for kids to add to the
map. Place toy cars on and near the map.
