FHS 2620 Activity/ Lesson Plan Evaluation

PART 2: SELF EVAUATION

Spring 2014
Student Name: ___Alexis Rowland_____
Lesson Plan Title: __Food and Safety Plans____
Dates Activities were implemented: __3/25____/___3/27___
Childrens Participation:
1. 1. Describe specific examples of engagement of children (i.e. who participated, specific social experiences,
comments on activities from the children, creative responses and use of materials, etc.) on the first day. Do the
same for the second day. Reflect on this information.
Day one: Kaydence and Jackson were really into the discussion we had about safety. They wanted to know
specifics like Why cant we climb up the slide? and How do I know if its a helpful stranger or a bad
stranger? Dallin wanted to know why whole tomatoes didnt smell like tomatoes. Abigail informed me that
tomatoes where her favorite but her grandma told me that she doesnt like tomatoes. Abigail responded stating,
I like tomato soup and grandma conceded the point.
Day two: Annie wanted to help me put the vegetables out on the table. She was obsessed with how pretty it
looked and even asked if she could do the lettuce because it was the biggest. Athena tried the broccoli because
Jackson had come over and put an entire piece in his mouth. After taking a bite, Athena spit the it out and was
brushing the broccoli off of her tongue. When I told her that she could throw it away, she ran to do so. Then
washed her hands and took a wet paper towel and scrubbed the yucky broccoli off of her tongue.

What Children Learned:

1. Describe what children said or did in the activities to demonstrate that they were learning? Then, how did
the learning change from Day 1 to Day 2?
Dallin said that the bell peppers should smell as sweet as they taste, because they dont have a smell he thought
they were spicy. After tasting them, he decided that sweet peppers were better than carrots, tomatoes, and
cauliflower.
Izzy mentioned that celery smells like feet. On day two, I asked her to try the celery and her response to how it
tastes was It tastes like it need peanut butter. I asked if it tastes like it smells and she said, It tastes ok but
smells gross! This shows me that she is able to see differentiate her smell and taste.
2. Describe how the children met/did not meet your behavioral objectives for this Lesson/Activity Plan:
BO #1: All children that went down the slide, went feet first.
BO#2: Children were able to list 4 rules of the playground.
BO#3: Every child that participated was able to tell me their favorite.
3. How will this information on learning and objectives impact your future plans:
Through this plan I learned that I can incorporate foods without fear. That the children will be interested based
on what else and who else is around. I need to be prepared for some children to just not be interested. I have
also realized that I need to be prepared for all children that COULD come at a specific time. This week I met a
new child and didnt plan for him because I had never seen him before. I need to make sure that I have enough
materials always.

Teaching Effectiveness:
1. Was the activity carried out as planned? What changes to your plan were made and why? Did the changes
enhance or detract from the activity?
Yes. No changes made though we spent more time talking about favorites than we did about recipes.
2. Describe and explain the strengths of your Activity Lesson Plan and implementation:
The biggest strength of this plan was that it intrigued the kids. I may not have had all of the children at my table
but all of them at some point wandered over and looked at the table, made a comment, or asked a question. This
made it almost as popular as the boats. I feel like they are interested in things when they are new and different and
that gives me more confidence in my plan writing.
3. Describe and explain the areas for improvements in your Activity Lesson Plan and implementation:
I felt like I spent a lot of my time repeating myself because I have no chance to explain anything to the kids. They
are already in centers when I come to class and the circle time is after. I need to find a way to make things simple
enough that I dont need to constantly sit by the table or explain everything to each child as they wander over to
me.
4. Reflect on your teaching experience. What did YOU learn from this activity?
I learned that I can write a good lesson plan. That I can step outside of my comfort zone and still provide an effect
lesson that the kids will learn from and hopefully have provided an experience that they will remember and be able
to build on in the future.
5. Describe and analyze the documentation that you collected (attach all documentation to this form):
Attached on next page.

Here are the pictures of the children going down the slide feet first on 3/25:

List of what the children stated were rules:

1- Feet first down the slide.
2- No toys on the slide.

3- Snow stays on the ground.

4- Dont kick balls at the school.
5- Feet first down the slide. (This rule was repeated but I said I would list all 5 that the children said.)

This is a chart made to show what the childrens favorite vegetable was:
