Orientation about MSU GenSan NSTP
Program
Activity
What is your first impression of the subject National Service Training
Program? Express your answer through a symbol or picture.
Analysis
Why did you choose that symbol? What does that symbol
represent?
I choose this picture because base on the subject description (National Service Training Program) it
would be teaching us about the programs and activities that would help us engage and be part of the
community development. The picture shown above symbolizes volunteerism. During my senior high
school year, my teacher told us that if we want to help in the community development, we first must
have the attitude of volunteering ourselves in any community engagement activities. Kirstie Mallum
(2016) stated that volunteers and volunteering make an essential contribution to nonprofit organizations
and development of more cohesive communities. Indeed, I expect myself to enhance my skills in
volunteering with community activities, and acquire more knowledge about community services from the
lessons that will be tackled in this subject.

Sense of citizenship, patriotism, nationalism, good moral values, volunteerism and self-

Application/Assessment
Briefly discuss the salient features of the NSTP Law (100-150 words only)
National Service Training Program (NSTP) Law or RA 9163 aimed to enhance sense
of citizenship, defense preparedness, and promote and protect the physical, mental,
spiritual, intellectual and social well-being of the youth. The NSTP also aimed to train the
youth to sustain social mobilization, engage in community services such as teaching
literacy and numeracy skills to school children, out-of-school youth and other people that
are in need of their services. Furthermore, NSTP has three components: the Reserve
Officers Training Corps (ROTC), the Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS), and the
Literacy Training Service (LTS). This program aimed to enhance civic consciousness and
defense preparedness in the youth by developing the ethics of service and patriotism while
undergoing training in any of its three components, specifically designed to enhance the
youth’s active contribution to the general welfare.
