DETERMINED TO CONQUER

Life is precious and is worth to be treasured for. Every single second counts, thus,
every memory should be valued. Through victories and defeats, life should be celebrated.
This is because life is about conquering challenges and seeing light in the middle of
darkness.

On June 7, 1999, a healthy 2.9 pounds baby girl was born. This marked the first
blessing that Mr. Melchor Patnubay and Mrs. Delia Patnubay have received. The
remarkable day happened in GSC Emergency Hospital at 8 o’clock in the morning. They
named her Cleofe Jane which was derived from the name Cleopatra who was a queen of
Egypt. Truly, this blessing of life from above is worth to be celebrated for.

I am actually that baby girl several years ago. My parents nurtured me with love and
care. Two years after I was born, God has given my family another blessing- a baby girl.
Her name is Nikki Marie. Our life is simple and happy. We live in a small house located
at Purok 7, New Society, Barangay Apopong, General Santos City. However, when my
father died, many things have changed. We were as if in a roller-coaster ride because of
the challenges we need to endure almost every day. I was also judged that I could not
finish my studies because of our financial incapability.

Despite all these things, I was able to stand firmly for 22 years through God’s favor
and my mother’s sacrifices. Indeed, time flew so fast because I am currently a 4th year BS
Accountancy student of Mindanao State University. This had been my family’s longtime
dream and I can’t wait to wear the maroon graduation gown and cap soon. Before
reaching this far, I have honestly experienced a lot of sleepless nights and cries of
frustration. Yet, these experiences have molded me to become the person I am today.

I love to read books and write different kinds of texts. Through these hobbies, I am
able to explore many things and express myself. Aside from that, I also devote my time
learning the Holy Bible and sharing the gospels towards others. My Saturdays and
Sundays are already reserved for these important stuffs. I really love to talk to people
about love, hope, and blessings. Prayer is always my sword and shield whenever I feel
sad, troubled, and despised.

I have still many steps to take in the future and I could say that the road towards it
might be rougher. This is for the reason that life is not only about trophies, winnings, or
victories, it is also about the valuable lessons we get from every defeat we encounter.
Through my family’s love and support and the Lord’s unending grace, I will pursue my
journey and fulfil my real purpose in life. Even if obstacles are blocking my way, I am
still determined to conquer my dreams not only for myself but also for my family.
