EIP Reflection
I started off this process with no idea what to write about; I actually googled argument
ideas because I was overwhelmed by the ability to choose anything that I wanted. During one of
my searches I came across the topic of Airport security and I decided to choose it because I had
some background knowledge and an opinion on the subject already. After deciding on my topic I
began writing down questions that would help to guide my research. I tried to ask the questions
in a manner that would flow so that they could guide me through my essay as I wrote it. Next I
did extensive research in order to answer my own questions as best I could. After everything was
answered my essay fell together for the most part and the only thing that I had to do was figure
out exactly how to phrase my thesis.
After the first draft was complete we did peer reviews in class. My group gave me helpful
feedback on what areas of my essay needed more information, and gave me suggestions on how
to elaborate on what I already wrote. I didnt get much feedback in the area of grammar, But it is
often harder for students to catch grammatical errors while checking for content. I also learned a
lot from reading my groups papers, such as what the current citation format is and the types of
things I should talk about.

As a researcher this project was pretty similar to all of the other research papers that Ive
done; however, the initial planning was different because I was allowed to choose from a broader
topic. Also the way in which I set up my rough draft was different as well. Instead of making a
chart to organize my thoughts into categories or paragraphs, I asked myself questions and
researched the answers. The end product came out about the same, and I think that in the future I
will stick with making charts before I write my drafts because its easier for me. Honestly, I
didnt learn much about writing research papers through this project, but I did learn a lot more
about my topic and the history of Airport security. I also learned that procrastinating is a terrible
idea when there is a lot of research involved because it takes a lot of time to find reliable sources
that give you the right information.
