Q1. Steam with known Temperature of 220C is kept inside a Rigid Tank with known Volume of 1.8 cm3.
If 2/3 of its Volume is occupied by Vapour, determine
a.) The Pressure inside the Tank.
b.) The Total mass of the Steam inside the Tank and its Quality.
c.) The Density of the Steam inside the Tank.

Q2. 1 kg of Tetrafluoroethane fills a 0.14 m3 weighted Piston-Cylinder Device at a known Temperature of

-26C. The container is now being heated until the Temperature has increased to 100C. Determine the
Final Volume of Tetrafluoroethane inside the container.

Q3. 10 kg Tetrafluoroethane is to be filled inside a Rigid Vessel with known Volume of 0.5 m3. After
Temperature Measurement is done, it is found that the Temperature of Tetrafluoroethane in the Vessel
is -20C. Determine
a.) The Pressure of Tetrafluoroethane inside the Vessel.
b.) The Quality and Total Internal Energy of Tetrafluoroethane inside the Vessel.
c.) The Mass and Volume of Liquid Portion inside the Vessel.

B.) Ideal Gas, Compressibility Factor And Other Equations Of State.

Q1. A 1 m3 Tank contains Air at Temperature and Pressure of 25C and 500 kPa respectively. This Tank is
connected through a valve to another Tank also contains Air but with known Mass of 5 kg at
Temperature and Pressure of 35C and 200 kPa respectively. Now, the valve is opened and the entire
system is allowed to reach Thermal Equilibrium with the surrounding, which are at Temperature of 20C.
Take Gas Constant of Air, RAir = 0.287 kJ/kgK.
a.) Determine the Volume of the Second Tank
b.) Calculate the Final Equilibrium Pressure of Air.

Q2. Determine the value of Specific Volume of Superheated Water Vapour at given Pressure and
Temperature of 10 MPa and 400C, respectively. This is done by each of the following methods:
a.) Using Property Table.
b.) Using Ideal-Gas Equation Of State.
c.) Using Generalized Compressibility Chart.
Take Gas Constant value, R = 0.4615 kJ/kgK.

Q3. Determine the Temperature of Steam inside the Tank if it is known that the Volume of the Tank is 1
m3, the Mass of the Steam is 2.841 kg and the Pressure is 0.6 MPa using the following methods:
a.) Steam Property Tables.
b.) Ideal Gas Equation Of State.
c.) Van Der Waals Equation Of State.
