1. A pump discharges into a 2.5 m per side cubical tank. The flow rate is 284 lpm, and the fluid has a
specific gravity of 1.2. Determine a) the mass flow rate of the fuid; and b) the time required to fill the tank
if the tank is initially empty.

2. At the beach, atmospheric pressure is 101.325 kPa. You dive 40 ft down in the ocean and you later climb
a hill up to 315 ft elevation. Assume the density of water 1020 kg/m 3 and the density of air is 1.2 kg/m3.
What pressure do you feel at each place?

3. Fahrenheit and Celsius thermometers are both immersed in a fluid and indicate identical numerical
readings. a) what is the temperature of the fluid expressed in R and K?; b) what is the fluid temperature if
the Fahrenhiet reading is numerically twice that of Celsius reading?

4. A 1.5 kg gaseous non flow closed system receives heat while its pressure remains constant at 360 kPaa.
The internal energy and temperature are increased by 215 KJ and 65 K, respectively, if the work done is
112 KJ, find a) the constant pressure specific heat; b) the change in volume; and c) the Cv, R, and k.

5. A nozzle is a device that converts fluid thermal energy, enthalpy, into kinetic energy. The kinetic energy
may be used to drive a mechanical device such as a turbine wheel, thus converting the fluid energy into
mechanical work. A nozzle receives 0.5 kg/s of air at a pressure of 2700 kPaa and a velocity of 30 m/s
and with an enthalpy of 923 kJ/kg, and the air leaves at a pressure of 700 kPaa and with an enthalpy of
660 kJ/kg. Determine the exit velocity from the nozzle for: a) Q = 0; b) q = -1.3 kJ/kg
