Lesson Plan Analysis

Activity: Whats in the House?

Materials needed: Rooms of the house and Household item cards
Activity description: To practice vocabulary and match the picture with the name.
What is the learning goal of this activity/lesson plan? To practice vocabulary and question and answer
forms.
1.

What behaviors would you observe that would indicate to you that the learning goal is being
met? What will the children do and say during this activity that would indicate they are
learning? They will use the key vocabulary words, such as: living room, stove. Sofa, pillow,
bedroom, bathroom, toilet, table, teapot, etc. They will say, Thats a living room and they
will be able to identify the picture as well the name and match it.

2.

Does this activity/lesson plan follow Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP)? Explain
your answer using details from the activity and whether or not it is appropriate for young
children. No it doesnt follow the developmentally appropriate practice for young children,
simply because its goes a little bit beyond their development. For an example, spelling out
the house item word.

3.

Does this activity/lesson plan demonstrate sensitivity to cultural and linguistic diversity?
What are your suggestions for making this activity/lesson plan more sensitive to cultural and
linguistic diversity? No, but some suggestions for making this activity more sensitive to
cultural diversity, is to find out what other children may call certain items in their home and
to make it more sensitive to linguistic diversity is to have the words in another language or
languages for the children who doesnt have English as their primary language.

4.

Describe some activities that you could do to expand upon this activity/lesson plan. Make
sure to explain how your expansion activities relate to the activity/lesson plan you are
analyzing. I would make a graph of what house item the children have in their homes, to see
what item is in their house the most. This relates to my lesson because the children are
cutting out items in their home and I am also doing a graph on who lives in a house or
apartment.

5.

How could you adapt this activity/lesson plan to meet the needs of children with
developmental challenges or disabilities? Please remember that all children must have
access to the activity. Sometimes you simply need to adapt the materials or methods in
order to make the activity accessible to children with challenges. Please describe 2-3
possible adaptations you would make to this activity in order to invite all children to
participate. I could adapt this activity to meet the needs of all children by having bigger card

and pictures, so that any visually impaired children can see it. I would make the letters big
enough for all to see.

Reflection: What is your general impression of this lesson? What do you think of the format of this
lesson plan? Is it use-friendly? Would you use it? Would you recommend it to others? This lesson plan
is not age appropriate for preschoolers, I would not use the format of this lesson plan because it doesnt
have any adaptations not is it cultural and linguistic sensitive. I would recommend the activity, but not
the format of this lesson plan.
