LESSON CONTENT & PROGRESSIONS
Set Induction
Today we will be playing two games that work on our fitness.
The first being Roulette and the second Monopoly. How many of
you have ever played monopoly? Today we are going to play
fitness monopoly. Does anyone have a favorite piece? Its a fun
way to get our heart rates up which helps us become physically
fit. Can anyone remind me what some of the components of
fitness are?
Instant Activity- Russian Roulette
The teacher will pair students up by the color of their shirts by
two. Space hula hoops around the gym and place two dice in
each hula hoop. Have each pair of students find their own hula
hoop. Each student will start with a dice and roll. The teacher
will have a list of 3 exercises on the board, the student who rolls
the higher number will choose one of the 3 exercises for the
other student to perform. Whatever the number on the dice is,
is how many reps the person should do. The highest roll will be
the number of reps the other student must do.
If the students roll the same number both will decide on an

as they can during a

exercise and perform together. The students will then repeat by

rolling the dice. They will keep partners.

Transition: Everyone freeze, eyes on me. Put your hands on your

neck or wrist checking for your heart rate. Take a mental note on
how quickly it is going. Now, I want you all to grab your dice and
hula hoop and bring them on over to the corner of the gym.
Activity/Task
Create a life-size monopoly board by placing 4 cones around the
gym symbolizing the 4 corners, and between each cone place 7
poly spots. Under each poly spot there will be index cards
labeled with a certain exercise, such as;
Jumping jacks
Squats
Push ups
Static lunges
Jump roping
Mountain climbers
High knees
Crunches
Sit ups
Six-inches
Plank
Warrior pose
Triangle pose
There are also cards that include
chance and community chest cards
just like the real game.
Chance Cards:
balance/core exercises
cardiovascular exercises
super man
jogging around game board
Seated twist
Freestyle Dance
Each student will start on their own
square. The teacher will be the first
one to roll the dice and the number
the dice reveals is how many spaces
the students move, rotating clockwise
around the board. Once at the right
square the student then looks at the
index card at that square and does

various
exercises for
this activity so a
number of cues
can be used

card is picked
up.
Some examples
of the exercise
that will be
included:
-Push up: Chest
to floor
- High knees:
Knees to belly
button
-Crunches: apple
under chin
-Planks: Flat
backs
-Mountain
climbers: Knees
to chest

students can get within
the time frame.

There will be pictures of

that certain exercise.

Assessment
will be based

spots and

activities
Students will
verbally tell
the teacher
which exercise
got their heart
rate going the
fastest and
why.

exercise,
students will

that exercise for a certain amount of

time (30 seconds) or however long
the teacher requires. If a student
lands on a specialty box (chance card),
they go in the middle and pick the
card labeled chance, then does that
certain exercise. There will be 2
chance cards at one half of the
gymnasium and 2 at the other side if a
student is on the left side of the gym
they will pick from the chance cards
on the left. If on the right side of the
gymnasium they stay on the right
side.
Once that time frame is finished the
student will write on the back of the
index the number of reps they
performed at each station
If its at the tree pose or warrior pose
they will write down how many
seconds they performed without any
wobbles.
The first rotation the teacher will
place the dice in one corner of the
gym. Tell students that when it is at
their spot its their turn to roll.
After first rotation tell students to
take a lap around the gym.
Explain to them that their HR should
be up and remind them the object of
the game.
Move the die in a different corner and
start the game over. Students should
still be writing their scores on the
index card.

Transition:
Everyone freeze, eyes on me. Jog on over to the line facing me.
Closure
Which exercise seemed to get your heart rate up the most? Why
is that? Which exercise did you not see much of a change in your
heart rate? Why do you think that was?
As you all can see, fitness can be incorporated in ANY type of
game or sport that you do out at recess or at home. Just as
