Introduction
This is a portfolio containing various projects and assignments I completed during the
semester using computer-assisted translation (C.A.T.) tools in the Introduction to
Computer-assisted Translation course at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. This
online portfolio contains three additional sections: a C.A.T. tool utility video, a group C.A.T.
project and an individual project.
The first of the additional sections contains a video I produced about the C.A.T. utility
tool IntelliWebSearch. This is a program for Windows that allows for quick search engine and
database searching while translating a document, and it also allows for multiple search engines
to be searched with just one action. The section also contains a recommendation of another
C.A.T. utility tool that could be useful for translators and managers.
The second of the additional sections contains files for a group project completed using
the C.A.T. tool Wordfast Anywhere. This project involved the situation of needing to translate
news articles about Ebola into various languages for a fictitious U.S. health agency. The section
contains the project proposal, deliverables (source texts, translations, style guide, glossaries
and final quality assurance) and a video about lessons learned, as well as possible
improvements that could be implemented in future projects.
The third of the additional sections contains files for an individual project about
speech-to-speech translation technologys history, future and pitfalls, as well as some
experiments with various systems.

The section contains the project proposal, write-up,

presentation video and something learned from watching a classmates video presentation.
