Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

Rationale/Reflection
InTASC Standard: #7: Planning for Instruction. Teacher plans instruction that
supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon
knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as
well as knowledge of learners and the community context (Council of Chief State
School Officers., 2013)
Brief Description of Evidence: In 2014 Fall semester In my EDUC230 The
Exceptional Child I completed this group project with three other students. It was a
service learning project in which we designed the beginning of a training regimen for
adults who have some sort of disability. This is for a future real life project that is being
formed now in downtown Muncie. The project will eventually help adults who have a
disability of some kind learn a trade in the hospitality venue at a Marriott hotel that is
currently being built. This will be in partnership with Indiana ARC. Our class members
were pioneers in this venture. Our group created several differing methods of delivery
for people who will be involved with the front desk personal training.

Analysis of What I Learned: I have learned to apply knowledge from writing


lesson plans to put that into action and develop something that may be used in
the training of adults. I have learned to connect different ways of teaching
something using different skill sets. I have used knowledge that I have from
working with adults in Special Olympics and experiences that I have had working
with the public. I am confident that what we have come with will be useful to real
life application in the community here in Muncie Indiana.
How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the InTASC Standard:
I have helped to create a plan for instruction That supports a wide variety of learning styles
with the high and rigorous standards of a leading hotel brand. It will be imperative to know
what skills the people already know when selecting what jobs will fit the capabilities best. The
training material provides different delivery of information that is critical for the trainee to
learn.
