Reflection Instructions
Given the Inspire Perspectives of Intra (what inspires me as a teacher) and Inter (what has shaped my
beliefs/values, practices, and professional knowledge), respond to the following prompts:
Intra:
● What is important to me as an inspired teacher? What are the important beliefs and values gained
from this class that inspire me (Affect)?
o It is important to me as an inspired teacher to be able to properly analyze my students needs
and design lessons that can be effective in meeting my student’s needs. As a substitute I have
come across several occasions where I just felt lost and frustrated. I knew that what I was doing
wasn’t working for everyone, but I didn’t have the knowledge necessary to be able to make the
proper changes. With the lessons I have gained from this course I now feel more confident in my
abilities to be able to design specific learning maps utilizing different resources that provide my
students with multiple means of representation. I am much more confident in my ability to
assess my students needs and adapt my lessons moving forward.
● What specific actions have I learned about from this class that I can take to remain inspired
(Behavior)?
o Specific actions that I have learned about from this class that I can take to remain inspired are
that there is a plethora of resources and information out there to be able to help our students.
We don’t have to recreate the wheel. When I was on Education.com looking for resources for my
toolbox I discovered there is a ton of information, resources, and learning maps already created
that can be used as guidelines or that we can take bits and pieces from to create the materials
that best work for our students.
● What are the important concepts, subjects, and/or knowledge gained from this class that have
inspired me as a teacher (Knowledge)?
o The important knowledge gained from this class for me was the ability to analyze my students
work and recognize the different learning needs or obstacles that they need help with to
overcome. In the past I have not felt comfortable in diagnosing my students needs. Now that I
have knowledge concerning language development and reading development I feel as though I
have a better idea as to what to do when my students are struggling.

Inter:
● When I think about inspiring my PK12 learners, what are the beliefs and values that will guide my
decisions and perspectives (Affect)?
o My beliefs and values come from my background as a sociologist. I believe education is
supposed to be the great equalizer, but many of us know that not all students receive the same
chance. Thus, it is my mission to really focus on and help my students who have been
marginalized by other social systems we live within.
● What are a few key teaching practices and/or strategies I plan to implement to inspire my
learners/students (Behavior)?
o One specific teaching practice that I plan to implement to inspire my learners is using material
and making my lessons relevant to their lives. Everything that I do I will try to make sure my
students understand that it is a building block to being able to do the things they want to do in
their lives, or things that they enjoy doing. I plan to use current up to date media and keep it
engaging.
● Considering what I have learned from this class, how will I know each learner is inspired to learn,
wants to contribute positively to our learning community, and is thriving in my class (Cognitions)?
o I will know my learners are inspired based on my observations of their interactions with
each other and the material. I will know they are inspired by the data that I get back from the
assessment pieces as my formative assessment pieces will not only assess their academic
performance but their feelings as well. I also plan to stay in constant communication with my
student’s families, as well as anyone else they interact with throughout the day. That way I
can hear about any struggles or issues that my students have that I may be unaware of, or
possibly a breakthrough that one of my colleagues had that I may be able to utilize in my
methodologies. Most of all I believe I will know whether my students are inspired or not
based on my interactions with them. I will be empathetic to their needs and always have that
watchful eye. I personally like to play handball or foursquare on the playground with my
students and I believe that helps me to establish more trust and a stronger teacher to student
relationship with my students. I have found that in doing so I have much more success when I
try to talk to students or ask them to do something, and have a much stronger influence on
their growth.
