Week 1: Onomatopoeia Word Study: November 3-7 2014
Monday: 8:30am-11:30pm

9:00am-9:25am Morning Meeting: Introduce Onomatopoeia words; Beep,
Vroom, Crash, Bang.
9:25am-10:00am Guided Reading: Read Beep Beep, Vroom Vroom by
Stuart J. Murphy pausing to highlight the onomatopoeia words as they appear.
10:00am-11:00am Learning Centers/Small Group
11:00am-11:30am Music and Movement. Sing The Wheels on the Bus
highlighting onomatopoeia words.
Tuesday: 8:30am-11:30pm
8:30am-9:00am Arrival Time
9:00am-9:25am Morning Meeting
9:25am-10:00am Word Study. Write on Smart Board the words the students
give that are onomatopoeia words. Give examples with current autumn weather.
10:00am-11:00am Learning Centers/Small Group
11:00am-11:30am Music and Movement. Sing Old Macdonald had a Farm

9:25am-10:00am Readers Workshop. Have numerous books we have already
read that have onomatopoeia in them. Have students sit in groups to use pictures to
identify onomatopoeia words.
10:00am-11:00am Learning Centers/Small Group
11:00am-11:30am Music and Movement. Sing Old Macdonald had a Farm
and pause to act out movements of the animals in correlation to their sound.

9:00am-9:25am Morning Meeting
9:25am-10:00am Writing Workshop. As a whole group; we will write a list of
onomatopoeia words we have learned this week.

10:00am-11:00am Learning Centers/Small Group. Students will write or


draw a picture in their journal of a personal experience when they have used
onomatopoeia words to describe something in their environment.
11:00am-11:30am Music and Movement. Sing The Wheels on the Bus

9:00am-9:25am Morning Meeting
9:25am-11:00am Science of Sounds Workshop. We will take a trip out into
the community to take a listening walk. We will write down the sounds we hear
outside and compile them into a chart when we get back to class.
11:00am-11:30am Music and Movement. Yoga for kids.

Week 2: Patterns in Literature Study: November 10-14 2014


Monday: 8:30am-11:30pm
8:30am-9:00am Arrival Time
9:00am-9:25am Morning Meeting. Discuss the concept of patterns. Have
students get into groups based on the color of their shirts.
9:25am-10:00am Guided Reading. Read Beep Beep, Vroom Vroom By
Stuart J. Murphy and point out the words associated with each color (ex. Crash goes
the red car).
10:00am-11:00am Learning Centers/Small Group
11:00am-11:30am Music and Movement. Sing The Bunny Goes Hop pattern
song.
Tuesday 8:30am-11:30pm
8:30am-9:00am Arrival Time
9:00am-9:25am Morning Meeting
9:25am-10:00am Word Study. A geometrical pattern will be drawn on the
smart board(ex. Square, circle, triangle) and as a whole group we will write words
to define the pattern (ex. The large yellow triangle and the small red square).
10:00am-11:00am Learning Centers/Small Group
11:00am-11:30am Music and Movement. Class will create a pattern and sing
a song about it.

8:30am-9:00am Arrival Time
9:00am-9:25am Morning Meeting
9:25am-10:00am Readers Workshop. Students will think pair share using
pictures in familiar shape books. They will be asked to describe the shapes that they
see in the books to each other.

a specified learning center(ex. science) and will write down a pattern they see in
their journal.
10:00am-11:00am Learning Centers/Small Group
11:00am-11:30am Music and Movement Class will create a pattern and sing
a song about it.

Friday 8:30am-11:30pm
8:30am-9:00am Arrival Time
9:00am-9:25am Morning Meeting
9:25am-11:00am Math Workshop: We will take a trip out into the
community to collect data. We will list all of the cars on a side street next to school.
We will collect data on what colors of cars we see and create a graph when we get
back to class noting the frequency of any colors.
11:00am-11:30am Music and Movement. Yoga for Kids.
