Figure 1 is an example of an obtuse triangle ABC and its altitudes.

These are the steps to finding the altitudes of triangle ABC:


To obtain the altitude BD: extend the segment AG, represented by the orange dotted
line. Then connect the vertex B to the extended line of AG and this segment becomes

the altitude BD. The altitude BD is perpendicular to AC, shown by the right angle
symbol.
To obtain altitude AE(represented by green dofted line) : draw a segment that is

perpendicular to segment BC from ve(ex A. This segment AE is the altilude because it


is perpendicular from the vertex A to the opposite segment BC.
To obtain altitude CF: Extend segment BA because this is the segment that is opposite
from vertex C. CF is the altitude because it is a segment that goes from vertex C of the
triangle to a point F that is perpendicular and on the opposite side of line BA.
