Writing Resources Center

Hi Jessica:
I enjoyed reading your paper for UWRT 1102. My name is Sarah and I will be
working with you today. I looked over your paper and it looks like I just need to
connect you with some good resources for MLA citation.
Please know that as you continue to work on this paper, the Writing Resources
Center is here to assist you. For additional consultations, whether face-to-face,
online, or e-tutoring, please visit our scheduler at uncc.mywconline.com. You may
find additional information about the Writing Resources Center at wrc.uncc.edu.
You may also email us at wrchelp@uncc.edu.
There are physical copies of the MLA handbook in the writing center, but Purdues
online writing lab or OWL is a great online resource for MLA formatting.
Here is the link: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/01/
Throughout this document, you will find text from your own paper. Your examples
will be in bold. My sample sentences or changes will be in pink.
1. Headers: You can avoid
JessicaM Hernandez
Professor Daugher
UWRT 1102
23 Nov 2014
from appearing on each papge by simply cutting these 4 lines out of the Header and pasting
them onto your first page above your title. Hernandez # should stay where it is in the upper
right-hand corner.

2. In text citations: each time you use a quote or reference a resource from your
work cited page, you must include an in-text citation. The authors name followed by

the page number on which the information was found should be in parentheses at
the end of the sentence, but before the period. For example:
and as such there are not many studies to the Mental Health Disorders Sourcebook
"approximately... 9 from which to draw conclusions. However according 5 percent
of the U.S. population ages 18 and older in a given year, have a depressive disorder"
(Bellenir page#). There are three forms of depressive disorders, major depressive
disorder, dystonia, and manic depression also
https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/02/ is the page with this
information on in-text citation.
3. Your work cited page should be on a separate sheet, and should indented in a
special way. The first line should be all the way to the left while the lines underneath
it will be indented. Here is an example from Purdue OWL:
Behre, Robert. "Presidential Hopefuls Get Final Crack at
Core of S.C. Democrats." Post and Courier [Charleston,
SC] 29 Apr. 2007: A11. Print.
Summary
I really hope you found the information I provided helpful. Purdue OWL also has
information for other citation styles if you ever need to use a different format.
Good Luck,
Sarah Lovin
