‘The objectives of this course are to provide students with:
1) aperception and appreciation of the scope, extent and importance of
the law;
2) basic knowledge of the fundamental concepts, principles, and rules of
law that apply to business transactions;
3) knowledge of the function and operation of courts and governmental
administrative agencies;
4) ability to recognize the potential legal problems which may arise ina
doubtful or complicated situation, and the necessity of consulting a
lawyer and obtaining competent professional legal advice; and
5) development of analytical and critical thinking skills.

textbook.
2) Read the Chapter in your text book.3) Answer the attendance question.
4) Go to the personalized study plan in Cengage Now. There will be specific
instructions posted in Moodle to direct you to the plan.
5) Follow each step in the study plan as set forth in Moodle, While you can
obtain the study plan in Cengage, a copy of the plan for each week will be
posted in Moodle. You should take the pre and post quizzes as instructed.
The post quizzes are graded.
6) Complete the homework in assignment in Cengage Now.
7) After you have completed the study plan, take the assessment quiz at the
end of the chapter on Moodle.
Students must answer the attendance questions by the posted due date. After the due dates, you will
not receive credit for answering the question. You will also have timed online quizzes that you must
complete by the due date (CSU Moodle website for each chapter). The third (final) examination
must be taken on campus (CSU), unless the student lives outside of the Chicago Metropolitan
area (i.e. surrounding suburbs). If the student lives outside the Chicago Metropolitan area,
arrangements must be made to take the exam at an approved alternate location and the
arrangements must be made two to three weeks prior to the examination date. Students are
required to pay the fee associated with alternate testing locations.
CENGAGE NOW (Required):
Cengage Now is an interactive homework and assessment manager. It is a fully integrated online
homework/study package which provides students with a personalized interactive learning
‘environment where you can complete your homework, pre and post quizzes, obtain immediate tutorial
assistance, learn at your own pace and measure your progress. It also contains an electronic version
of the text. The instructions for accessing the site are posted on Moodle. This is a required
component of the course. FOR THOSE STUDENTS THAT ARE UNABLE TO PURCHASE THE
TEXT RIGHT AWAY, THERE IS A TWO WEEK TRIAL PERIOD WHERE YOU CAN ACCESS
CENGAGE NOW WITHOUT PURCHASING IT “ TRY BEFORE YOU BUY”.
ATTENDANCI
‘You must visit the CSU Moodle website at least three to four times every week to look at the
announcements, answer the attendance question posted for each week, complete the study
plan, complete homework and take the online quizzes. Your attendance will be taken by your answers
to the questions by the posted due dates.
It is the University’s policy that the instructor may drop students whose total absences are equal to or
‘exceed the equivalent of two weeks of instruction. If you have not logged in and completed the first
two attendance questions, you will be withdrawn from the course. If you stop attending class, it is the
your responsibility to offically drop the course; Failure to do so may result in an automatic “F” grade
at the end of the semester. The final date for withdrawing from a course with a “W" is October 31,
2014. Grades of Incomplete “I” will not be given unless the University Guidelines are met. You
cannot receive an incomplete due to poor performance. Please read the University undergraduate
catalog for further information on academic regulations and requirements.
GENERAL POLICIES:
It is important for you to keep up with the course. Set up 2 calendar for yourself with the assignments
and due dates. It is important that you log on regularly, especially taking into consideration the
complexities of the course material. It is important for you to visit the website and complete yourattendance question, homework and quizzes within the time specified. Generally, homework and the
chapter quizzes are due at the end of each week or a few days after the chapter has been assigned
and will be posted on the CSU Moodle website.
GRADING:
There will be threr examinations. No make-up exams will be given unless arrangements are
made prior to the missed exam for extenuating circumstance for which you may need to
provide some form of substantiation. Quizzes will be given after the completion of material
and will be announced. There will be absolutely no make provisions for quizzes.

HOMEWORK:
All homework must be completed by logging on to Cengage Now and completing the
assignment by the due date. Late homework will not be accepted. Please do not ask for an
extension of the deadline. If it is determined that an extension is necessary, | will do so for the
entire class. Students are not allowed to duplicate the homework of other students.

EXTRACURRICULAR
ACTIVITIES:
Success in a chosen path requires that students develop not only academic skills
but communication and interpersonal skills as well. All students are encouraged
to participate in extra-curricular activities in the college. This will give you the
opportunity to associate with professionals in your discipline and to acquire
valuable knowledge that is not taught in the classroom. Accounting and finance majors are
particularly encouraged to join the student chapter of the National Association of
Black Accountants (“NABA”). All majors are invited to join ENACTUS formerly Students in
Free Enterprise(“SIFE”). Meeting times are posted throughout the BHS Building. Additional
