CIT PAPER
The Holiday Catholics storm the churches twice a year. In the story, The Christian
Paradox by Bill McKibben, he explains to the reader that Catholics say they are Catholic but
they arent as active as they should be. McKibben claims that Americans are hypocrites in every
aspect of life, especially when it comes to religion.
Jesus tells his disciples they need to love thy neighbor yet the love that us, Americans
show is very minimal. According to, A Christian Paradox, we are, of course, the most violent
rich nation on earth, with a murder rate four or five times that of our European peers. We as a
nation are so self-absorbed that we forget what Jesus wanted for our lives. He wants his
disciples to help the needy, go to soup kitchens and love everyone for who they are and try to
help out anyone in their time of need. Our crime rates are higher than any other country along
with having an increase of 26 percent in households that were food insecure with hunger
(McKibben). The United States is apparently A Christian Nation but countries that arent
religious or as religious as us are so much more loving. Such as Sweden or Norway, where
religion was relatively unimportant, they give aid to the poor and make sure everyone has
heath care (McKibben).
