Lesson Reflection
Wednesday October 8th
Today was my first observed lesson. I was nervous going into it because I always get
nervous while getting observed. When I was a student teacher for undergrad, I was in a
general education class. It is a completely different environment this year. There are
students in the class that can have outbursts at any second. I did my lesson in writing.
The lesson taught the students to add expression and voice into their writing. I feel that
overall the lesson went alright. There were many things I could have done differently.
When we had the conference about my lesson, I took down many notes. Afterwards I
spoke to my cooperating teacher and we decided that we should teach the lesson. I also
looked a a few of my students writing from the lesson. Many of them added very juicy
vocabulary words their writing was definitely more expressive, but I think doing the
lesson again could really help them. Looking back at my lesson, I completely agree that
I should have given the students the sheet to look at. The other day we gave the
students sheets on the rug and they played with them the whole time. When I re-do this
lesson, I am going to keep them at their seats and give them the papers there. I need to
focus more on the writing and less on the reading. I loved the idea of adding punctuation
to the writing and how they will then read it with expression. Throughout the week we
are going to introduce punctuation in writing and explain that it adds expression. We are

also going to create a child friendly rubric for the students that focuses on expression
and punctuation. I think that will help them with writing. We are also in the process of
creating reference binders as a grade and in them will be all different rubrics, checklists
and pages they can refer to while writing, reading and doing math. I think adding this
rubric to the binder will help all of the third grade classes. I am excited to share it with
them.
