Thisproposalillustratestheessentialpiecesoftechnologyanewschoolneedstooperate.Based
offofourbudgetof$500,000.00,twentyfiveclassroomswithtwentyfivestudentsineachclass,wewere
abletochoosethreetoolsthatareessential.Inthisreport,wewilllistallofourpossiblechoiceswithprice,
prosandcons,anduseintheclassroom.Wewillthenrevealourfinalthreeweplanonimplementinginthe
schoolandtheoverallpriceofthesetools.Ourtopthreechoiceswerechosenbasedoffofprice,
functionality,userfriendly,andiftheywereallcompatiblewitheachother.Attheendofthereport,wewill
explainhowwearegoingtotrainourteachers,maintainthisplanofaction,andourtotalcost.

Engagingstudentsintheclassroomisalwaysbeneficial.Thebenefitsfromengagement
affectallpartiesinvolvedinalearningenvironment,fromindividualstudent,toparentsand
teachers.Statisticallystudentsinterestedandinvolvedinthelearningprocesseshaveamuch
betterunderstandingofthematerial,andgoontobecomeselfmotivatedlearningsinthefuture.
Whichbringsustotheproblemathandsoexactlyhowareteacherssupposedtoconsistently
engagetheirstudents?Thereisnoonestraightlineanswertothis,buteducatorsfromacrossthe
globehavecometounderstandthattheproperimplementationoftechnologycanpositively
affectstudentsthroughengagement.Withthisinmind,mycolleaguesandIproposethe
implementationofthreespecifictechnologyresourcesforanewschoolcorporationtoadaptin
ordertomaximizestudentlearning.

ThefirstresourceisastudentinformationsystemknownasAlma.Almaissoftwarethat
allowsforopencommunicationbetweenparents,studentsandteachersoutsideoftheclassroom.
Thiscommunicationcomesintheformofcurrentgrades,attendance,eventcalendar,
announcementsandamessageboardforhomeworkhelp.ThebenefitofsoftwaresuchasAlma
isthatitbreachestheboundariesbetweenhomeandtheclassroom.Parentsnowhaveanexact
ideaofwhattheirstudentsareworkingonatschool.SimilarlythroughAlmastudentshavea
resourceathomewheretheycanasktheteachersquestionsregardingassignments.Furthermore,
Almasolvestheproposedproblemofengagementbybeingavisualreminderoftheirstandingin
eachclass.Studentscanseetheirscoreonassignmentsandoverallgradeanytimetheywish,in
turnintrinsicallymotivatingthemtosubmittheirbestwork.

ThesecondresourceweproposetoimplementistheMicrosofttablet,theSurface2.This
tabletisuniqueinthatitfunctionsidenticallytoatraditionaloperatingsystem.Studentswill
havethecomputingpowerofanydesktopintheformofaportable,userfriendlytablet.This
powerfultabletaidsinsolvingtheproposedproblemofengagementbylettingstudentstotake
learningintotheirownhands.Additionally,anotherbenefitutilizingtheSurface2isthatitis
extremelycosteffectiveincomparisontopurchasinglaptopanddesktopcomputers.

Thirdly,mycolleaguesandIproposethattheschoolcorporationenacttheMimio
Whiteboardinordertofosterstudentinvolvementandmaximizelearning.TheMimio

Whiteboardisagadgetthatisuniversallycompatiblewithanywhiteboard.TheMimioapparatus
attachestothesideofthewhiteboard,andhorizontallyprojectsaLEDlightthatmakesthe
whiteboardinteractiveusingtheMimiosoftware.Thisdirectlysolvestheproposedproblemof
studentengagementbecauseitdoesexactlythatrequirestudentstointeractwiththeirlearning.
AnexampleofthiswouldbeageographyteacherprojectinganinteractivemapofJapanonthe
whiteboard.StudentswouldlookovertheprojectedmapofJapan,andcomeuptotheboardin
ordertotouchanyregiononthemap.TheLEDlightcorrespondswiththestudentstouchonthe
Mimioprojection,andanimageofthechosenareaslandscapewouldappearforallstudentsto
see.Thistechnologytoolnotonlyvisuallyengagesstudentsbutservesasaplatformforteachers
totaketheirclasstoplacesthatwouldotherwisebeinaccessible.

MycolleaguesandIproposetheimplementationofthetechnologyresourcesknownas
Alma,Surface2tablets,andtheMimioWhiteboard.Thesetechnologytoolsintheirown
effectivewaydirectlyanswersthedilemmathatteachersface,engagingstudentsinthe
classroom.Theproposedresourceshaveaplethoraofeducationalbenefitsthatwillinturnteach
studentstotakecontroloftheireducation.

Cost:

IncompletingthisprojectmycolleaguesandIbelievedthatweneededtofindeffective
technologies,whilestayingunderbudget.Takingintoconsiderationthecostofthemany
aspectsofthisimplementation,wehavedecidedthatthemostinexpensiveoptionsofthe
highestqualitytechnologieswouldbethebestoption.Belowwehavelistedtwoscenarios,in
whichthestudentsaregiventheWindowsSurface2withorwithouttheoptiontobundle.The
figuresbelowdemonstrateeachoptionwefoundnecessaryfortheclassroomincludingthe
threemajortechnologyoptionsfortheonetoonetechnologyintegration.Eachoptionstayed
underbudget,althoughscenarioonecameveryclosetothebudget.
