Denguecontinuestobemajorpublichealthconcernsintheregion.Onlyin3countries
havethenumberofreportedcasesdecliningfrom2011to2012(Maldives,Nepaland
Thailand),whileIndia,Indonesia,Myanmar,SriLankaandTimorLesteontheopposite,
havereportedmorecasesin2012(duringthesamereportingperiod).

(CFR1,3%)inthecorrespondingperiodof2011.Mostcasesin2012arereportedfrom
southernstatesandWestBengal.
Indonesia:408deathsin2012comparedto255deathsin2011,withCFR0,86%and
0,80%,respectively.CFRremainsthesameasnumberofcasesin2012ishigherthanthe
previousyear.
Maldives:Sofar1deathreportedin2012(CFR0,13%),whilein2011withanoutbreak
14deathsreported(CFR0,41%).
Nepalcontinuestoharborveryfewcases(<100)andlowactivity.
SriLanka:numberofcasesishigherthisyearandinterventionsaretakingplace(aerial
spraying,casemanagement).85deathshavebeenreported(CFR0,28%)against0,7%in
2011.Molecularsurveillanceisongoing,withDENV1foundasthemostcommon
serotype.
Thailand:Upto31July2012thetrendhasbeendecreasing(CFRin2011and2011are
0,1%and0,07%,respectively)comparedtothesameperiodin2011.August2012,
however,shoedasharpincreasewith9014casesand42deaths(0,47%CFR).
TimorLeste:in2012,outbreakofdengueoccurredin5outof13districts(Dili,
Manatuto,Baucau,Viqueque,Liquica)withDIliandManatutoreportingmostcases,
whileViquequeandLiquicawherenormallyreports<5caseshaveseen510times
increase.
