LEARNING DISABILITIES

INTRODUCTION
LEARNING DISABILITIES ARE PROBLEMS THAT AFFECT THE BRAINS ABILITY TO RECEIVE,
PROCESS, UNDERSTAND AND STORE INFORMATION. THERE IS A GREAT NUMBER OF CHILDREN
IN OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM DIAGNOSE WITH A LEARNING DISABILITY BUT EVEN THOUGH
THEY MAY HAVE THIS PROBLEM THAT DOESNT MEAN THAT THEY WONT LEARN AND HAVE A
NORMAL LIFE. SOME OF THE MOST COMMON LEARNING DISABILITIES ARE ADHD (ATTENTIONDEFICIT HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER), DYSLEXIA AND DYSGRAPHIA. CHILDREN WITH A
LEARNING DISABILITY MAY COME FRUSTRATED NOT TO KNOWING WHY THEY CANT LEARN
LIKE OTHERS OR STAY FOCUSED. THE DATA IN THIS 2014 REPORT REVEAL THAT, LEFT
UNADDRESSED, AS MANY AS 60 MILLION INDIVIDUALS RISK BEING LEFT BEHIND, BURDENED BY
LOW SELF-ESTEEM, SUBJECTED TO LOW EXPECTATIONS, AND DIMINISHED IN THEIR ABILITY TO
PURSUE THEIR DREAMS. (JAMES H. WENDORF, NCLD EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR). HAVING A
LEARNING DISABILITY DOES NOT MAKE CHILDREN UNABLE TO LEARN THEY JUST MAKE THEM
DIFFERENT.

WHERE DOES IT COME FROM?


THE SCIENTIST HAVE DONE MANY STUDIES AND THEY ARE STILL NOT SURE
WHAT MAY CAUSE ADHD BUT THEY HAVE SAID THAT GENETICS MIGHT
INFLUENCE AS WELL AS BRAIN INJURIES, ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AS WELL AS
SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT. HOWEVER WHATEVER THE CAUSES MAY BE THE REAL
PROBLEM IS THAT A GREAT AMOUNT OF THE KIDS HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSE WITH
THIS LEARNING DIFFICULTY THE PAST YEARS.

DYSLEXIA
DYSLEXIA IS A COMMON CONDITION THAT AFFECTS THE WAY THE BRAIN
PROCESSES WRITTEN AND SPOKEN LANGUAGE. THE CHILD DOES NOT
OUTGROW THIS CONDITION IT IS A LIFELONG CONDITION IT ONLY MEANS THAT
THE CHILD NEEDS MORE TIME TO UNDERSTAND THINGS. DYSLEXIA AFFECTS
WRITING, SPELLING AND EVEN SPEAKING.
CAUSES
THE CAUSES OF DYSLEXIA AT YET UNCLEAR BUT RESEARCHERS HAVE COME
TO AN AGREEMENT THAT IT COULD BE GENETIC OR PROBLEMS WITH THE
BRAINS ANATOMY AND ACTIVITY HOWEVER IT IS NOT A CONDITION THAT MEANS
THAT THE CHILD IS UNABLE TO LEARN.

DYSGRAPHIA

THE CAUSES OF DYSGRAPHIA ARE YET UNKNOWN EXPERTS ONLY AGREE THAT
IT HAS TO DO WITH THE BRAIN, THE WAY IT PROCESSES THINGS.

SPECIFIC LEARNING DISABILITY AND IT IS DIFFICULT TO LISTEN, THINK,


SPEAK, READ, WRITE, SPELL OR TO DO MATHEMATICAL CALCULATIONS.

CONCLUSION
THERE ARE MANY MORE LEARNING DISABILITIES AND EACH CHILD THAT HAS
THEM ARE SPECIAL. KIDS WITH A LEARNING DISABILITIES ARE OFTEN CALLED
LAZY AND THIS IS NOT TRUE THIS KIDS ARE OFTEN VERY SMART AND CREATIVE
THEY JUST LEARN A DIFFERENT WAY. WHEN HAVING A LEARNING DISABILITY IT
ALL COMES TO PATIENCE IN THE WAY YOU LEARN. CHILDREN ARE OFTEN
FRUSTRATED BECAUSE THEY ARE DIFFERENT TO THE OTHERS BUT THEY
OVERCOME THIS WHEN THEY UNDERSTAND THEIR DISABILITY. HAVING A
LEARNING DISABILITY DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU WONT LEARN IT JUST MEAN
THAT YOU WILL DO IT A DIFFERENT WAY AND THAT MAKES YOU A SPECIAL
PERSON.
