PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT

Philosophy Statement
There are many different types of philosophies within the educational field. Every
educator has their own outlook and opinions on teaching. Finding out where you stand in your
beliefs as an educator takes time and is never concrete because with experience outlooks change.
The philosophy in the book that best describes my personality is humanism. There are
aspects within this philosophy that are pertinent such as people possess the will and desire to
become the best they can. I like the idea that with an encouraging environment, everyone will
flourish because all people have the natural tendency to learn. Everyone is capable of attaining
knowledge.
According to my philosophical beliefs all schools should provide students with
environments that allow for a sense of security and promote students inner personal
development. This would allow for vast realms of educational growth and the unraveling of
individual importance within each child. The humanism philosophy states that learning should
promote the humans potential for growth; becoming the best one can be. As educators we should
strive to encourage students to believe in themselves and in their potential.
The teachers role is to find interactive ways for the learner to construct his or her own
understandings of reality through acting upon and reflecting on experiences in the world. This
concept is supported by constructivism. This means teachers need to care about the way
information is presented and guided. Teachers need to find interactive ways to promote learning
that are effective and influential to the student.
I learn best through group discussion and hands on activities. I am a visual learner.
Therefore, I believe in some forms of lecture, promoting group discussions, and constructing
hands-on activities. These concepts should be guided by finding ways of connection through

student interest, and following the teachers required curriculum. These ideas are supported in the
philosophies of constructivism and humanism.
A philosophy is important because it guides us as educators. Finding concepts and ideas
that hold significance to us and our point of views allows us to develop and become the type of
teacher we wish to be. Humanism and constructivism are certain philosophies that hold
importance to the governance of my life.
