Dear Ashlee Minor:
I am writing to apply for the Waterfowl/Passerine Research Technician position that was posted on the Texas A&M
University job board. I am currently planned to have earned a bachelors degree in Wildlife Resources Management in
May 2015 where I will be eligible for professional certification as an associate wildlife biologist through The Wildlife
Society. My education from the University of Idaho has provided me the skills that meet the preferred qualifications
described for this position. I believe that due to my upbringing involving the operation of ATVs and 4WD vehicles along
with my motivated work ethic, and personality I would be well suited for a team of field technicians.
I have been working part-time as an undergraduate student for almost 4 years. The establishments that I was employed by
were called Opportunities Unlimited Inc. (OUI) and the Latah County Soil and Water Conservation District. At OUI I
learned through the multiple trainings required for me to be able to physically and mentally assist people living life with a
developmental disability. I provided this assistance by initiating specific tasks designed to teach the essential living skills
deemed the most required by the state for each individual. This would take place in a skill specific group or a 1on1 setting
in the community, home, or the center. My work for the Soil and Water District involved restoring natural habitat sites
around Latah County, which contains the Palouse prairie region and encompasses a portion of the Clearwater River
Watershed. My duties included nursing both natural vegetation at sites and potted plants at the shop. My other duties were
preforming planting, laying sedge mats, running water-shuttle pumps and removing invasive noxious species while
working in a crew of 4 members. My past education from completing a Systematic Botany course aided me in identifying
different plant species to complete the necessary habitat design proposed in the project funding. Also while in college I
would spend time volunteering for The Friends of the Clearwater which is a non-profit organization established to protect
the integrity of the Clearwater National Forest of Northern Idaho and the Clearwater River Basin. The task that I
performed consisted of spending a few days in the forest to hike a list of specific non-motorized trails with a camera and
yardstick to look for evidence of trail degradation from the use of prohibited vehicles.
Throughout my college career I have spent a significant amount of time working with both real and fictional datasets
related to the population ecology of a species in numerous statistical analysis programs. I have also collected samples of
my own data for class research and laboratory exercises. The exercises consisted of point-counts for Avian species,
detecting/identifying Avian species using both direct and indirect survey methods, an independent study on the vigilance
expressed by ungulate species of Western Montana, and identifying the vast number of different vegetative species native
to the state of Idaho as well as surrounding states. I take pride in all aspects related to the work that I perform and I enjoy
solving problems that involve the use of critical thinking.

I have enclosed a copy of my rsum with this letter. I am very interested in this position and would greatly appreciate
the opportunity for an interview. Please feel free to get in contact with me by phone or email at any time.

Sincerely,

Zachary J. Cuddy
