Transcendentalism
A state of mind, and a form of spirituality: Its not a religion Its a pragmatic philosophy of
inherent goodness in us, the people, and the surroundings of our world, nature. Transcendentalism.
Ralph Waldo Emerson, the Father of this philosophy, Nature, popular essay in 1836. Popularity
of his essay spread the belief of Transcendentalism. Trust thyself every heart vibrates to the iron
strings (Emerson). Believe in yourself, for yourself, by yourself, belief the key to reaching simple and
better life. People shouldnt judge you for who youre truly are as a human being. Youll do what you
got to do and there wont be anyone having to concern about your actions.
In 1857, Walden was published by Henry David Thoreau reflecting about his thought of how
nature can lead into a simple lifestyle; dont have to stress out on the society were currently in. This
was a philosophy he wanted to make us, as a society, follow his belief to glare at a lifestyle thatll be
easy. Thoreau is showing enthusiasm and motivation expressing Simplicity, Simplicity, and Simplicity!
His belief of living a life of simplicity. He influenced people who are having life of troubling, come
along and follow his belief.
Fuller, Margret Fuller, a womans rights advocate, hoping to see our society of women in
lifestyle as men. She wrote Women in the Nineteenth Century; informing women should have equal
rights. By receiving education, she believed women should be self-reliant. Beware of over-great
pleasure in being popular or even being beloved
In conclusion, simplicity is the main key towards us, as a society, towards nature. Emerson,
Thoreau, Fuller had a belief of having just a simple life. A wise man will become intoxicated with
oxygen of nature, as a man of the mainstream, become intoxicated with wine and a side of
everyday struggles.
