With this Journal article, Emotion Regulation Through Listening To Music In Everyday
Situations, found in the Journal, Cognition & Emotion, it supports that music helps individuals
go through situations better while listening to their choice of music. This study was published in
March of 2012 through multiple studies of having participants that listen to mousic and how they
react to it.
This article is written by five different authors. It does provide a works cited along with
charts and different studies.

This article helps support that music can benefit people in many ways such as physically,
emotionally, and mentally. These were supported by different sources gatherd and put into a

Wynton Marsalis argues that music isnt just a side class, but a very essential class that is
core to a students education. His thesis is that Music, in its purest form, encompasses the very
ideals that we want to impart to our children. (Marsalis 2004). His argument is based off of his
prior experiences of teaching students.
Wynton Marsalis is the artistic director of jazz at Lincoln Center and winner of a
Pulitzer prize for his work Blood On The Fields. (Edutopia.org) With most of his argument
coming from his prior teaching experiences, a works cited would be nice but not nessecary.

This segment goes deep into what music does for the average person. No clear thesis is
found anywhere in this article. They list different studies in the medical field such as this,
Researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore have constructed a
study which concluded that listening to your favorite music may be good for your cardiovascular
system. (jbmusictherapy.com)

While it lists specific facts from different studies, there is no works cited and author to be
seen. So while the information is great for supporting music and music education, this source
lacks credibility.

Ellen Judson first states while in 2008, Obama talked about supporting the arts
tremendously, the arts still get pushed away unlike the core subjects such as math and reading.
Her thesis statement is As a result, students have lost the chance to reap the myriad benefits of a
music education including improved academics, the learning of essential skills for the 21st
century workforce, confidence, citizenship, creativity and innovation.

Throughout this article, Judson supports the arts and music in specific with all different
kinds of sources. There is a list of reference link in the article. Overall, this is a great article and
very credible.

Since this is just a definition from Merriam-Webster, it doesnt have a thesis statement.
With it being a definition, there is no works cited or does it have a specific author
however, there are different editors that update it frequently making it a good credible source.

With this being the preamble from the NAFME (National Association For Music
Education), it supports music education fully. The preamble is the thesis for all that they support.
On their site, there are many sources that support what NAFME stands for.
NAFME used to be MENC (Music Educator National Conference) which has been
around for over 100 years. There isnt a works cited for the preamble nor is there an author.
Overall this is a good credible source.
