INT. BUCHANANS house Mid Day
On a boiling hot summer day with all the windows opened
GATSBY, NICK, and JORDAN BAKER visit the BUCHANANS
mansion. The atmosphere is very intense between the
characters.

DAISY
(dramatically)
Some weather! ...Hot! ...Hot!
...Hot! ...Is it hot enough for
you? Is it?

While TOM BUCHANAN is conversing on the telephone with an

unknown entity, the others commence gossip regarding TOMS
affairs.
JORDAN BAKER
(whispering)
So the rumor is that that
person that TOM is talking with
is actually his mistress! Why
would she even call here! Out
of all of the places she calls
where DAISY lives.
JORDAN BAKER (V.O.)
What kind of manners did TOMS
mistress have growing up as a
child?
The room became
living organism

DAISY, one with an enchanting charm, went over towards

GATSBY and told him that she loves him. The atmosphere is
very profound with multiple emotions roaming around the
room.

Ext. Outside of the BUCHANANS house

GATSBY and TOM saunter outside of the house and marvel at

the view.
TOM
I read somewhere that the suns
getting
hotter
every
year,
seems that pretty soon the
earths going to fall into the
sun-or wait a minute-the sun is
actually getting colder every
year.

GATSBY looks scrupulously in all directions outside and

comes across the view of his colossal image of a house from
afar.

4
GATSBY
(pointing)
My house is right across from
you.
TOM
Oh yes, you are!

Int. BUCHANANS house

The day was getting hotter by the minute and DAISY is
getting fussy as well. The house has turned into a sauna
that kept heating up!
DAISY
What will we do this afternoon!
Lets go to town. Who wants to
go into town?

DAISY, after saying her idea of going into town, looked at

GATSBY with her miraculous eyes that eventually put him in
a state of nirvana and happiness as she quietly professed
her infinite love for him. TOM noticed the connection
between the two love birds and became short tempered.
TOM
(aggressively)
All Right
into town!

already!

Lets

go

DAISY
The day has become too hotwell
I guess we can go. I cant go
dressed like this though, come
on JORDAN lets go change.

The girls went upstairs to change while the men waited

around and talked. The mens conversation was eventually
interrupted by DAISY, who was speaking from the top floor.

Int. BUCHANANS house

TOM
(thinking)
Ill get us some whiskey!

TOM went inside to go retrieve a bottle of whiskey to take

into town.

Ext. Outside of the BUCHANANS house

Now just GATSBY and NICK were left outside of the white
palace belonging to the BUCHANANS. GATSBY and NICK had a
very quick but intriguing conversation that lasted for a
short moment.
GATSBY
(beat)
I cant say anything

Her voice is full of money.
NICK (V.O.)
(amazed)
That
was

palace the kings daughter, the

TOM came out of the house wrapping a quart bottle in a

towel, followed by DAISY and JORDAN wearing small tight
hats of nice cloth and carrying shawls over their
shoulders. TOM drove in GATSBYS car along with NICK and
JORDAN BAKER, and GATSBY took TOMS coupe with DAISY on
board. They were going into town.

Ext. Valley of ashes WILSONS Garage

TOM put on both brakes impatiently and the car slid to an
abrupt dusty spot under WILSONS sign.
TOM
(rudely saying)
Lets have some gasWhat do you
think we stopped for to
admire this view!
(beat)
Wait a
WILSON?

minute,

whats

wrong

7
WILSON
Im sick, Im all run down.

TOM
Well, shall I help myself?
(beat)
What do I owe you?
WILSON
Dollar twenty.
WILSON puts the gas, and TOM and WILSON discuss the selling
of the yellow car.

Int. Plaza Hotel

TOM led the way, while watching GATSBY and DAISY (wondering
if they would dart down a side street and out of his life
forever) to the Plaza Hotel. The room in the hotel was
large and stifling, and, though it was already four
oclock, opening the windows admitted only a gust of hot
shrubbery from the Park. DAISY went to fix her hair in the
mirror. TOM unrolled the bottle of whiskey
DAISY
(fatigued)
Open another window,
is getting very hot.

the

room

TOM
The thing to do is to forget
about the heat. DAISY you make
it ten times worse by crabbing
about it.

GATSBY
(talking urgently)
Why dont you leave her alone,
old sport? TOM, you are the one
that wanted to go into town.

There was a moment of silence in the room; the telephone

book fell from the floor, which grasped the attention of
everyone.
NICK
Ill pick it up.
GATSBY
Ive got it.
TOM
(rudely)
Thats a great expression of
yours, old sport. Whered you
pick that up?
DAISY
If you keep acting rude TOM I
wont stay here another minute.
Now order us some ice for the
drinks.
Conversation is made, and the ice is broken up for the
drinks. Interestingly, TOM asked GATSBY many questions. The
atmosphere is very profound.
TOM
I hear youre an Oxford man Mr.
GATSBY! Well, are you?

GATSBY
Well
(beat)
It was 1919 and after the
Armistice some officers were
given a chance to go to any
university
in
England
or
France. I only went there for
five months, and thats why I
cant really call myself an
Oxford man.

DAISY
(annoyed)
Well, TOM now you look like a
fool!
TOM
Wait a minute I want to ask Mr.
GATSBY one more question? What
kind
of
scandal
are
you
trying to cause in my house? DO
you think Im going to let some
man come into my house and make
love to my wifeI dont think
so!
GATSBY
Ive got something to say to
you,
old
sport.
Your
wife
doesnt love you; she never did
because she loved me. Tell him
the truth DAISY.

10
While all of this displeasuring conversation was occurring,
DAISY was scared. NICK and JORDAN were un-included as well
as listening to the uncomfortable conversation.
Tom
(angrily)
DAISY whats going on! Have you
been seeing this guy for years
now behind my back!
DAISY
(Sadly)
I never loved TOM, there JAY.
TOM
(tenderly)
Not even that day I carried you
down from the Punch Bowl to
keep your shoes dry? DAISY?
DAISY
I loved both of you all at one
point! Now stop wanting so much
from me!
The conversation grew intensely with anger and rage between
GATSBY and TOM, while DAISY was a part of this as well.
Then, GATSBY lost his temper. GATSBY had a certain look; he
had the look as if he had just killed a man. DAISY ran
off towards the yellow coupe in order to escaping this
horrid environment. GATSBY went along with her. JORDAN
BAKER, TOM, and NICK were still in the room.
NICK
(surprised)
I just remembered that today is
my birthday.

MONTAGE

1) GATSBY and DAISY drive away into the valley of ashes

very fast.
2) A strange figure runs toward the car, trying to stop
the yellow coupe.
3) The car was going too fast.
4) The person, MYRTLE, was run over by the car.
5) Later TOM, JORDAN BAKER, and NICK see the accident
6) TOM freaks out because he sees that the dead body is
his mistress, MYRTLE.

Int. Valley of Ashes WILSONS Garage

TOM
(whispering)
That car wasnt mine WILSON.
WILSON, GATSBY was driving the
car that hit MYRTLE.
Ext. GATSBYS house Swimming pool

As GATSBY was swimming, a strange figure appears out of

nowhere. The figure was WILSON. He had come to seek his
revenge. WILSON shoots GATSBY with his pistol and GATSBY
dies in the pool.

Int. Random House
