CONSTRUCTED RESPONSE ITEM


In the ninth meeting in Test and Evaluation II class, we talked about CRI
(Constructed Response Item). As we know before, for assessing students performance,
we have 3 main methods: Objective, Constructive response and alternative assessment.
This item used to an extremely answer that the student should be able to describe from
their mind. Now, we will learn the advantages of the short answer items, the
disadvantages of the short answer items, how to write the short answer items better, how
to prepare for using the short answer items and how to score the short answer items,
then, when essay question should be used, the disadvantages of essay question, the
advantages of essay question, improving essay question in writing skill, how to
construct essay question and how to evaluate essay question.
In this discussion of the meeting, Mr.Teguh asked us to write on the whiteboard
to compare the disadvantages and advantages from Selected Response Items/Objective
Response Items and Constructed Response Items. After that, some of my friends move
forward to fill the table. Moreover, Mr.Teguh gave us a paper and asked us for
highlighting or underlining the paper that which the context is. Then, no long time, He
called at least 3 of my friends, first is Hanifah, She was asked by Mr.Teguh that what
have you already underlined? She answered Advantages of short Items, it gives the
students more flexibility in their response and it is usually more straightforward and less
likely to be tricky. The next is Safitri, still the same question and she answered I
have highlighted the primary advantages of the short answer items that it provides
information to the teacher about exactly what the student knows and doesnt know.
The last one is the same question for Rani and she answered I have highlighted about
the disadvantages of short answer items that it is difficult to assess student achievement
at other than the knowledge level. Thats all for discussion today.
So far, I can understand the difference between CRI (Constructed Response
Item) and SRI (Selected Response Item), although CRI more difficult than SRI to
students and also difficult for assessing done by the teacher, CRI is one of the important
assessment to increase critical thinking of the students themselves. From the explanation
of my lecturer, now I could make a good question about short answer items and how to
score it well. In this meeting, I scored 80 for my understanding.
