SURGE DIVERTERS 40 & 80 kA

MULTIMOV
Voltage, of surge diverters has been designed to withstand
up to 440V between any phase to neutral. The unique
design ensures the /EV range of surge diverters can survive
up to 440V continuos voltage and still provide adequate
protection against transient overvoltages.
The diverters may be DIN rail mounted with the clips
provided. These clips are removable to allow panel
mounting.

Product Description
Novaris 40kA & 80kA MULTIMOV surge diverters provide
high-energy surge diversion for single phase and three phase
power circuits. The units are designed for mounting at power
switchboards and distribution boards where medium to high
exposure to surge disturbances is to be expected.
In a systems design these surge diverters would be utilised
upstream of power line surge filters for effective protection
of high sensitivity loads.

Operation
The surge diverting elements are based upon 40kA metal
oxide varistors (MOVs). Each varistor is connected in
circuit with a high-energy fuse. The fuse allows the varistor
to absorb maximum energy, but in the event of a varistor
failure, the fuse will open circuit to isolate the damaged
varistor. Should the diverter be subject to a prolonged
overvoltage and the MOVs reach a high temperature a
thermal sensor will indicate an alarm condition.
All diverters are alarmed with a local LED display
indicating the status of each varistor. A common alarm is
also provided to indicate the failure of any one element.
This takes the form of a clean changeover contact with 4kV
isolation to the active circuitry.
Both the SD3-40N and SD3-80N provide all mode
protection between each phase and neutral, each phase and
earth and neutral and earth.
The SD3-80N is a redundant segment unit with 2 segments
per phase. One segment failure indicates reduced capacity
but does not result in loss of protection.

Extended Voltage Operation

Under abnormal or poor power quality conditions the
voltage may exceed 280V, the point where most traditional
MOV based surge diverters will fail as a result of these
prolonged overvoltages. The /EV series, meaning Extended
