Sipeknekatik Chief and Council are appealing a decision made by the Municipality of Colchester County to dispose of fracking wastewater through the Debert sewer system. The municipality granted approval to Atlantic Industrial Services (AIS) to discharge treated hydraulic fracturing wastewater into the Debert sewer system on December 10, 2014 Sipeknekatik Chief Rufus Copage sent a letter of appeal to the municipalitys Chief Administrative Officer, Ramesh Ummat, on December 19, 2014. The protection of water is important to Sipeknekatik and stewardship of the environment is of paramount importance, he added.
