Introduction
The testing procedure used for this study involved

running both SWMM 4 and 5 on an identical set of

dynamic wave flow routing test problems and then
comparing the results.

SWMM
Followed successive evolutions
SWMM: a program of hydrological simulation
Completely re-written version of SWMM.

2005: SWMM5

Example: User2

Its a 3.5 square mile drainage

area broken into 17
subcatchments

83 conduits that are a mixture

of irregular natural channels
open channels and closed pipes
of various shapes

28 storage units along with 19

weirs

A 4.4 inch,24 hour design

storm was applied to the
system

Comparison
between SWMM5
and SWMM 4

Comparison of the runoff

computations between them

Comparison of the peak flows

computed by the two
programs

Good agreement with the

average difference being less
than 2 percent

The next figures represent

the comparison between
the flows produced by the
two programs at the four
locations

Comparison of the node water depths in the same points

10

Comparison of surface storageroad overflow arrangement at

location TW01240
Depicts the behaviour of the two programs at one of

the surface storage-road overflow locations TW01240

Conclusion
Through this users we could analyze the results obtained

with SWMM 4 and 5

The agreement between SWMM 4 and 5 is very good

This project allowed us to work more with the software
