FoodInTheClassroom

Snacksareaveryimportantpartofastudentsday.Theyprovideenergyforour
students to make it from mealtomeal during the school day without
experiencinghungerthatcanadverselyaffecttheirlearningabilities.TheDistrict
encourages students to bring a snack to school in order to avoid these energy
slumps.

TheDistrictencouragesthatsnacksbroughttoschoolbehealthy.Snacksthatwill
be eaten in the classroom must be peanut/nut free to protect students with
specialdietaryconsiderations.Beveragesarelimitedtowater.

Teachersareallowedtousefood,healthysnacksandprovidetreatstostudents
as part of educational lessons and projects, or as classroom rewards and
motivational tools. If a teacher wishes to do this, the teacher must provide
parentswithnoticeandmustreceiveparentpermissionbeforeusingorproviding
food,snacksortreatsforstudentsintheclassroom.

The PTO may also provide food, drinks, snacks or treats to students during
designated holiday parties or as part of PTO events for the students. Parents
mustbegivennoticeandmustgrantpermissionbeforethePTOmayprovidesuch
food,drinks,snacksortreatstothestudents.

TheSuperintendentshallestablishprocedurestoimplementthispolicy.
