Release Note
Dear Reader

We are pleased to announce the release of Service Pack 2 for the version 1.5 of the Protection and
Control IED Manager PCM600.
PCM600 is a tool for configuration and communication engineering, parameter setting, and
monitoring. It provides functionalities required throughout the life cycle of protection and control
IEDs in transmission and distribution applications.

Feature enhancements

PCM600 Ver. 1.5 SP2 provides the following improvements:


The earlier released hotfixes for PCM600 Ver. 1.5 have been integrated in the Service
Pack 2 to enable easier installation. The integrated hotfixes are Hotfix 1 and 2,
Hotfix_20071019, Hotfix_20071109 and Hotfix 20080131. For more information about the
hotfixes please refer to the readme files on the PCM600 CD
Regional setting enhancements for handling 670 series IEDs
Improvements in the Communication Configuration Tool (CCT), including IEC 61850-8-1
engineering support for RTU560

Ver 1.5 SP2 . The Installation procedures are described in the installation
guide that is included as a PDF file on the PCM600 Ver. 1.5 SP2 CD.
For an overview of the functionality, also refer to the PCM600 Product
Guide and the PCM600 brochure that are available at www.abb.com/

Technical requirements

The operating systems supported are stated in the PCM600 Installation

on HW/SW

Guide. The hardware requirements can also be found in the same


document. The use of PCM600 with a certain IED type requires that
the corresponding IED Connectivity Package has been installed. All the
latest System Connectivity Packages (previously called Communication
Connectivity Package) can be found on the PCM600 Ver. 1.5 SP2
product CD. The IED Connectivity Packages can be installed from the
appropriate IED Connect CD.

Installation

New installation or if PCM600 Ver. 1.5 (SP1) already installed


Start the installation of PCM600 by running the installation program
(Setup.exe) from the PCM600 CD. Follow the instructions given by the
installation program. The installation procedure for the PCM600 software
is described in the PCM600 Installation Guide.
Please note that PCM600 will be installed on the hard drive partition with
the most free space available.

Upgrading from previous version(s) of PCM600


When upgrading from PCM600 Ver. 1.1 (SP2) to PCM600 Ver. 1.5 SP2,
please read the Known Limitations section Project Management in
release note of PCM600 Ver. 1.5 (document ID 1MRS756272) or in the
installation guide, before you start the upgrading.
For information about limitations of the PCM600 installation with regard
to other software products in the same PC, please refer to the sections
Known limitations of this release and General in the PCM600 Ver. 1.5
release note (document ID 1MRS756272).

For security reasons we recommend you to change the Data access


password in order to avoid unauthorized access to your project data
from other workstations. You can change the password in the Tools/
Options/System Settings view of PCM600.

Main functionality

PCM600 is a complete tool suite for the management of ABBs


protection and control IEDs. It covers the entire life cycle of the IED - from
the engineering, testing, commissioning, operation and maintenance
to the support for function and disturbance analysis in case of a power
system fault. The Protection and Control IED Manager PCM600 fully
complies with the IEC 61850 standard. PCM600 uses device-specific
IED Connectivity Packages, which contain a complete description of the
specific IED, consisting of data signals, parameters, addresses and IED
documentation.

Ordering and delivery

PCM600 Ver. 1.5 including SP2 can be ordered as a separate product


from ABB Oy, Distribution Automation, Finland, or from ABB AB,
Substation Automation Products, Sweden. It can also be downloaded at
inside.abb.com/substationautomation.
