RE: Collateral Time for August

14, 2014

Dear Teachers:
I need to inform each of you that on Thursday, August 14, we have scheduled our fall Open House for
the parents and students. YES, the date is next Thursday, August 14, and each of you will need to
work 1.5 hours of collateral time.
The reason for this Open House change is because it was the belief of several of the faculty members
that our previous Open House presentations were not effective and the numbers of parents coming for
the Open House were dropping.
The open house will run from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Each of you will be expected to serve half of the
time of the open house. I will expect that each house/specialist teacher will schedule their work time so
that half will work from 4:30 to 6:00 and the other half will work from 6:00 to 7:30. You will need to
work out who will serve when on Wednesday afternoon, August 13, when we meet for our faculty
meeting.
As parents and students arrive on Thursday, August 14, they will first get their childs schedule and
locker/locker combination. Then, they will find their houses and probably work their locker
combinations. After that, they will likely seek out some house teachers and or department teachers to
discuss the school year. There will be an ongoing flow of parents and students throughout the night, so
there will not be a specific program for teachers to present. The concept that we want to impart to our
students and parents is a welcoming message, answer any questions that might come up, and share the
excitement of starting a new school year. In the cafeteria there will be a Start of Our Tenth Year cake
for refreshments.
At 6:30 p.m., there will be a Solid Gold Assembly in the Auditorium for those students who achieved
solid gold status last year as 6th or 7th graders. Of course, their parents will also be in attendance for the
awards ceremony.
We are trying something new this year. I fully expect that we will have over 1000+ students and their
accompanying parents in attendance, making this an important first impression opportunity. Please
make all necessary arrangements to attend this compensated collateral time expectation. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Dale Lass
Principal
