Answers to Case Questions:

1- Jack is probably not yet ready to serve as a project manager. Jack does not portray
himself as a good communicator. He tends to dominate conversations, whereas a
project manager is more of a delegator and has a healthy relationship with all his coworkers. Having worked with the company for 12 years, Jack is well versed in the
technical details required for the completion of the project. However, he lacks crucial
man-management skills in which he might need some training.
A good way for Jack to prepare himself for the role of a project manager would have
been to initially become a close subordinate to a project manager on a project, so that
under the guidance of an experienced head, he could learn the skills required in the
new role.

2- Jack is dominant in his conversations with Alfreda and pays little attention to her side
of the issue at hand. He disregards Alfredas previous experience as well as her
qualifications. He micro-manages her and does not allow her to be creative and show
her full potential. He lacks respect in his communication.

3- Alfreda hasnt had an open conversation with Jack on his ill treatment of hers,
because she knows very well that Jack is a bad listener and disregards her opinions. It
would be pointless communicating anything with such a person, specifically pointing
out their own faults. If she does approach him, Jack would not find a solution to the
problem he is made aware of, and instead brush Alfreda off and never listen to such
comments again.

4- The manager will respond in a fair and just manner. The manager must summon Jack
immediately and have a look into the matter. The manager can also hold a general
meeting with all employees concerned with the project, in which he/she clearly

defines the scope of every individuals work, how much authority a person has over
other employees and how the work a person is responsible for must be completed.
