Data Management Project - Final Assessment
‘+ Answer all questions on graph paper.
« Use a pencil and ruler.
* You may use a calculator to find the mean and median.
+ Write the date and the question numbers.
1a. Create a single stem-and-leaf plot to show one set of
continuous data (e.g. height, armspan, wrist circumference)
‘from our class,
Checklist:
Give your plot a descriptive title.
1b, Calculate the range, mean, mode and median for the set of
data (e.g. height) on your stem-and-leaf plot.
Checklist:
range mean mode median
2a. Create a single bar graph with intervals showing the same
data (e.g. height) for students from one other country
(Australia, New Zealand or United States).
Checklist:
Choose and appropriate scale for the Y axis (e.g. number of
students). You may want to use the < symbol
Choose appropriate intervals for the X axis
(eg. height: 100 - 109, 110 - 119, 120 - 129, 130 - 139, ete.)
Label both axes. Include units of measurement (e.g. cm).
Include a key (BCPS/ Australia),
Add a descriptive title.2b. Calculate the range, mean, mode and median for the set of
data (e.g. height) on your bar graph from another country.
Checklist:
[range [[] mean [7] mode [7] median
Using your stem-and-leaf plot, bar graph and measurements
(range, mean, mode and median), compare students in our
class with the students from another country (Australia,
New Zealand, United States). Are we similar or are we
different? Explain you reasoning (give supporting evidence
from your data and graphs!) in a persuasive paragraph.
Checklist: Your paragraph should consist of at least 5 sentences.
[_] Topic Sentence
(e.g. The grade 5 students at BCPS are similar/dif ferent to
students from...)
[J] Minimum of 3 supporting statements with evidence (refer to
graphs and range/mean/mode/median),
1 conclusion‘4a, Using two sets of continuous data from our class only (e.g.
armspan and foot length), create a scatter plot.
Checklist:
LL) choose an appropriate scale for the X axis (e.g. armspan)
[_] Choose an appropriate scale for the Y axis (e.g. foot length).
You may want to use the S symbol
F] Label both axes. Include units of measurement (e.g. cm).
7] Add a descriptive title.
4b. What is the relationship between the two sets of data (e.g.
armspan and foot length)? Refer to the scatter plot
(upward trend, downward trend or no trend) to explain,Examples of Continuous Data
Height (cm)
Armspan (cm)
Foot Length (cm)
Forearm (cm)
Wrist circumference (mm)
Travel time (min.)
