AHMAD AMINUDDIN

ANTEROLATERAL ABDOMINAL
WALL
The cartilago of 7th 10th rib.
Xyphoid proces.
The inguinal ligaments.
The anterolateral aspect of the pelvic
girdle.

THE WALL CONSISTS OF

Skin
Subcutaneous tisue.
Muscles and their aponeurosis.

FUNCTIONS OF THE
ANTEROLATERAL ABD MSCL
Form a strong expandable support for the
anterolateral abdominal wall.
Protect the abdominal viscera from injury.
Compress the abdominal content to
maintain or increase the intra-abdominal
pressure and , in so doing, oppose the
diaphragm.
Move the trunk and help maintain posture.

VESSELS OF THE
ANTEROLATERAL ABD WALL
Superiorly to the intrnal thoracic vein.
Lterally to the lateral thoracic vein.
Inferiorly to
- Superficial epigastric veins.
- Inferior epigastric veins.
Cutaneous veins surrounding the
umbilicus anastomosewith parumbilical
veins.

VESSELS OF THE
ANTEROLATERAL ABD WALL
The thoraco epigastric vein, between
- Superficial epigastric vein and
- Lateral thoracic vein
Anastomosis between
- Inferior epigastric vein
- Superior epigastric vein

LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE
Superficial lymphatic vessels
Superior to the treansumbilical plain
- Axillary l.n.
- Parasternal l.n.
Inferior to the transumbilical plain
- Superficial inguinal l.n.
Deep lymphatic vessels
- External iliac l.n.
- Common iliac l.n.

- median umbilical fold
- medial umbilical fold.
- lateral umbilical fold.

PERITONEAL FOSSA
SUPRAVESICAL FOSSA.
MEDIAL INGUINAL FOSSA.
LATERAL INGUINAL FOSSA
Falciform ligament, encloses the
round ligament of the liver and
paraumbilical veins

INGUINAL REGION
The inguinal ligament and iliopubic tract
- from the ASIS to the pubic tubercle.
The inguinal ligament is a dense band
constituting the inferiormost part of the external
obliq aponeurosis.
The iliopubic tract is the thickened inferior
margin of the transversalis fascia, running
parallel and posterior to inguinal ligament.
Inguinal ligament and iliopubic tract span an
area of innate weakness in the myopectineal
orifice.

INGUINAL CANAL
Inguinal canal is an oblique passage
approximately 4cm long directed
inferomedially, parallel and superior to the
medial half of the inguinal ligament.
Content
- spermatic cord.
- round ligament.
- ilioinguinal n.
- blood and lymphe vessels.
