A big controversy today is whether the U.S. should leave Iraq.
In the article US Should
Leave Iraq to Iraqis, the author argues that the US should pull out of Iraq and leave them to fend for themselves. We all want our troops home but the US leaving Iraq is not the answer. The problem with leaving Iraq is they are not a stable enough of a country and it would be very easy for a new regime to move in and take it over. Then we would be at square one again and all the US lives lost would be in vain. I believe that once we have helped rebuild what we destroyed, which includes the government, the US should stay and help the people of Iraq. If we were to leave Iraq right now, many of its people would feel resentment towards the US and would more than likely result in more terrorists cells to start popping up in Iraq. Looking at the credibility, reliability, and validity of this article, it seems to me that the author, Doug Bandow has experience as a former special assistant to Ronald Reagan. This to me tells me that he understands how politics works but has the wrong idea of what would be good for the US. It is very easy to say that we need to leave because we never found weapons of mass destruction but this issue is far deeper than just WMD. This is about getting a country that suffered for so long, back on their feet and get democracy to those people. Doing this will help ensure that in another 10 years, the US has to go back over there and loss more US lives. With a topic like this one, there are many good points on both sides. The fact that we never found WMD makes many people feel like our own government lied to us to get us over there but on the other hand, we managed to get a dictator out of office and execute him for his crimes. No matter how someone looks at it, we need to simply support our troops because they are the ones putting themselves at risk.
