Dinosaur 13 Movie Review Teachers often use movies as a way of enhancing student understanding, The goal is for the film to be both informative and entertaining enough to hold student interest. Your job is to become a movie critic for a newspaper designed for science teachers by creating a one-page movie review page. You need the teacher to understand what the documentary Dinosaur 13 is about, how it relates to the unit you are studying, and why he/she should or should not use it. Creating the Newspaper Create a Title for the Paper: Be creative. Remember that science teachers are your audience. Include a location of publication and date. 2, Writing your Review: A newspaper article normally contains multiple paragraphs that are shorter in length. a. PARAGRAPH #1; Introduce the movie by stating that you've just seen this movie and would like to give an opinion about it. Mention a couple of details that might help the reader understand what genre of movie you are talking about. b. PARAGRAPH #2: Summarize the plot (story). Where and when did it take place? Who are the main characters? What is the story about? Remember, do NOT include spoilers and do not tell how the story ends! c. PARAGRAPH #3: What lessons did you learn from this story (theme/moral)? What do you think others will learn from it? Why should people care about it? d. PARAGRAPH #4: Talk about what you liked about the movie and what you didn’t like, Be sure to include specific details and scenes. What group of people would like this movie? Who would you recommend it to? Who would you not recommend it to? Would it meet the needs of a science teacher? Would students enjoy the film? 3. Rating system: Give the moviea score. You can do grades (A,B,C,D,F+ or -), stars (*** out of *****), numbers (3 out of 5) or something totally original... just don’t use “thumbs up” or “thumbs down.” Provide a brief statement on your reason for the score. 4, Picture: Find a picture online that you feel is appropriate for your article. Be sure to include a caption that describes the picture. You may include more than one picture if you have room. 5. Twitter Feed: Many newspapers include reviews from social media. Include two tweets (140 characters or less) that review the film (you will make up both tweets). 1 tweet should be from a middle school student and 1 tweet should be from a science teacher. Both tweets need to include twitter handle (@science is awesome). Explain any changes you would make to the film to enhance the value of is storytelling. @ Would you recommend this documentary to a friend or family member? Why or why nol?
