READING
Hannah: We are learning about Martin Luther King, Jr. Sammy: We learned that he had four children.
Maddie: MLK gave an important speech. It was his I Have a Dream speech, and it was about whites and
blacks being treated the same or equally. Sophia: We also learned about the children's march. It was a
march by children for freedom. Some kids got hurt during the march, but they did not fight back.

KATYS KLOSET
Sarah: We are combining our Katys Kloset letters with a partner. Gev. Lansing: We hope to be finished with
the children's letters by the end of next week. We will then be looking for businesses that might be willing to
support our efforts. We are looking for used medical equipment or monetary donations. The plan is to ask
many companies for small donations. If you have any connections that we could use to send our letters,
please contact me.

HANDWRITING
Hannah: We learned about tow truck letters in our handwriting books. Gev. Lansing: We have now
completed the most challenging letters. We are making good progress and hope to get through the rest of
the alphabet soon.

MATH
Rachel: We are learning about liters and milliliters (Metric System) and cups, pints, quarts and gallons
(Customary System). We are also learning about pounds and ounces (Customary System) and grams and
kilograms (Metric System). Beni: We are also starting to learn about time! Ethan: This year we are learning
about elapsed time and telling time to the minute.

SCIENCE
Sarah: We just started our nutrition unit. Samantha: We are learning about the food groups, and we are
making an interactive notebook with sheets about nutrition! Hanna: We made a little flower with petals that
lift up. On the petals we wrote about all the different nutrients. We will use it to study and remember them.

HEBREW
Rachel: We had a birthday party because we finished our Hebrew book. It was all about birthdays. We
made gifts for each other. We even got to eat cake! It was so fun! Maya: Gev. Bachars group is learning
about verbs. Gev. Grusgot: Some kids are reading another book, and we are practicing our words by
playing a game.

JEWISH STUDIES
Rachel: We are continuing our Avram journals. We each have a partner. We used Pic Collage on the iPads.
Maya: We are doing the ten tests. We are on test number 3. Samantha: We are starting to do sheets and
color pictures and highlight words in Hebrew!

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Sarah: We started to learn how to shoot a basket. Samantha: We are learning how to throw a basket ball.

COMPUTERS
Rachel: We made an acrostic poem about January. We have to write three words for each letter. Gev.
Lansing: They are hanging in the hall by our room. Come take a look! Sammy: We are now making a book
about Martin Luther King, Jr.

MUSIC
Joe: We sang a song about Martin Luther King, Jr., Baby Beluga, and a Hole in the Bucket.

ART
Neta: We made things from clay, and we learned how to make tiny books. Rebecca: We are learning how
to put the covers on the tiny books. Sammy: Some people are working on a special project that will be
shared at the art show. Gev. Porat: It's a secret for now!

LIBRARY
Maddie: We were searching on the World Book Encyclopedia site. Samantha: We have gone on this new
website, and there are learning games! Gev. Meister: The kids can use World Book Online at home with the
user name mjdsathome and the password homelink.
