This paper is a cont ribution to the semantic-concept ual analysis of the phraseology of
the Serbian lang uage. Serbian phraseological units are grouped into one phraseological asso
ciative field on the basis of a general meaning they convey, which is connected with death,
disappearance, depart ure from this world or leaving the field of the percipient into the unk
nown, loss or decay, changes in a physical or mental and physical state. The analysis will attempt
to determine how their lexical composition ref lects the images of the disappearance of man
as well as which concepts are embedded into the phraseology that expresses disappearance.
Key words: Serbian, phraseology, concept ual analysis, verb nestati and its synonyms.

THE CONCEPT OF DISSAPEARANCE
DEPICTED BY PHRASES IN THE SERBIAN LANGUAGE
Summary
This research has shown that the phraseology of the Serbian language can express the concept
of human dissapearance (otii na onaj svet / u bestragiju / u nedoiju / sa oka). It reflects, above all,
the Christian theological teachings about death and the cognitive-psychological experience of ones
dissapearance, leaving the field of the percipient. The moment of the disappearance of a person is
usually associated with death and characterized by suddenness, mystery etc. Phraseological units
usually depict natural death as a departure to another world in an indirect way, or as consciously,
forcefully, and secretly abandoning a particular space.
