Common-Gate Amplifier (50 points)

Calculate the Q-point, the terminal
voltage gain Avt, the signal source
voltage gain Av, the input resistance
Rin and the output resistance Rout of
the common-gate amplifier shown on
the right. Assume RI = 1 k,
RS = 51 k, RD = 20k, R3 = 3.9 k,
Kn = 500A/V2, VT = 2 V (note: this
is a depletion mode NMOS transistor,
i.e. the transistor is normally ON; just
solve as usual, but consider that the transistor is ON for VGS > VT = 2V), = 0.02 V-1,
VDD = 15 V.
Note: You can always check your results with SPICE.

Differential Amplifier (25 points)

The differential amplifier shown on the right has
the following parameters: VCC = VEE = 12 V,
REE = 270 k, RC = 330 k and F = 100.
(a) Calculate the Q-point for the transistors in the
amplifier circuit.
(b) Calculate the differential mode gain, and the
differential mode input and output resistances.

Differential Amplifier (25 points)

Design a differential amplifier (i.e. find RD
and RSS) to have a differential mode output
resistance of 5k and a differential mode
gain of Add = 20dB = 10, using the circuit
shown on the right. Assume VDD = VSS =
5V, VT = 1V and Kn = 25mA/V2.
