This course served as the basic course in Chemistry for


Engineering-based students. This course covers topics on atoms,
molecules and ions, chemical reactions, gases, thermochemistry,
quantum theory and electronic structure of atoms, periodic
relationships among the elements and chemical bonding.
Electrochemistry and some basic organic chemistry topics are
also included.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be


able to acquire basic concepts of chemistry, analyze scientific
concepts and think critically, review the importance and
relevance of chemistry to engineering courses and industry.

Aware of the importance of sciences and mathematics in engineering curriculum and their responsibilities as engineering students;
Ability to communicate effectively;
Ability to function as an effective team player with the capability to lead;
Understand social, cultural, global and environmental responsibilities of an engineering student;
Ability to undertake self learning and attain knowledge of contemporary issues.
