hisbrother)anotherelectricalengineeringcompanyinMilan.Thistime
businesswasbetter.However,Hermann'shealthhadgonedownhill,andhe
diedofheartfailureinMilanonOctober10,1902.

In1903,PaulinewenttolivewithhersisterFannyandherhusbandRudolf
Einstein,afirstcousinofHermann,inHechingen,Wrttemberg.Fanny's
daughter,ElsawastobecomethesecondwifeofAlbertin1919.In1910,
Paulinemovedwithhersister,FannyandherfamilytoBerlin.Shetookon
ajobashousekeeperinHeilbronn,Wrttembergin1911.Shelivedwith
herbrotherJacobKochandhisfamilyinZurichafter1914.

Totheirdismay,theEinsteinbrotherseventuallylostabiddingwarfortheelectrificationcontractofMunichtoSiemens,
whichpromotedthemodernalternatingcurrent.Theirfortunestookadecidedlydownwardturnfromthere.
ThetwobrothersmovedtheircompanytoPavia,Italyin1894.Hermann,PaulineandMajamovedtoMilaninthesameyear
